Position Focus

The Associate Director of Diversity and Inclusion will lead a team of subject matter experts who are responsible for engaging in all areas of employee support, embedding an equity lens, and/or DEI Learning and Professional Development equity lens engagements, and/or creation of Learning resources, web-based trainings, and other tools and resources to support system-wide DEI engagement. The Associate Director guides strategic thinking and planning around system-wide professional development in collaboration with the Organizational Effectiveness and Staff Development, WorkLife, Office of Diversity & Inclusion, Affinity Group Development & Community Engagement, and other diversity units throughout the campus. This experienced leaders and educator will assist with the design and implementation of a suite of data driven and research-based diversity, equity, inclusion, and educational trainings, facilitated discussions and workshops supporting both staff and management and leadership development.

Essential Duties: Create and deliver cutting edge content that is appropriate for audiences that include staff, managers, emerging leaders, and leaders. Development of curriculum for diversity, equity, and inclusion training will be key to the role. Empower and inspire participants through adult learning pedagogies that includes interactive engagement and concludes with practical action steps that can be taken after attending any training or workshop. Consult with department leadership and other key stakeholders to conduct needs analysis at the individual, team, and organizational levels to uncover the learning and developmental needs of individual contributors, leaders, and teams. Ensuring that the educational product delivered fits the needs of the department/unit/group. Build, implement, and execute enterprise-wide, scalable, DEIB learning strategy including developing DEI curriculum, staff development, training and learning opportunities, toolkits, and materials that advance DEIB commitment and strategy. Collaborate with the session content will focus on critical diversity, equity inclusion, belonging and social justice topics such as inclusive leadership, communicating across differences, unconscious bias, microaggressions, allyship, sponsorship, critical race theory, ableism, restorative justice, and the history of systemic and institutional racism, its effects and how do we begin to dismantle to recreate an equitable community. Build, implement, and execute enterprise-wide, scalable, DEI learning strategy including developing DEI curriculum, staff development, training and learning opportunities, toolkits, and materials that advance DEI commitment and strategy. Serve as subject matter advisor to identify and integrate DEI learning and development into business priorities, principles, and operations. Develop and implement accountability measures and metrics to track, evaluate, and report on the progress of DEI and L&D objectives across functions and countries. Lead cross-functional L&D diversity projects and facilitate meetings; handle project documentation and plans, including success metrics, training timelines, and milestones to ensure timely completion of learning project deliverables; and communicate project status across the organization. Works with individual contributors and people leaders to recommend learning events, learning paths, and talent development interventions based on needs. Create and maintain content that is delivered through a variety of modes and platforms that engage all types of learners and are consistent with adult learning principles; continually review, audit, and update content and materials to integrate best practices that reflect the evolving nature of DEI education. Curriculum will be across multiple platforms to maximize participation throughout the university workforce. Develop expert knowledge by researching DEI training best practices and trends.

Essential Duties

  • Partners with senior leadership in policy making; develops and strategically positions human resources goals and objectives to successfully attract, retain, and motivate a highly talented and diverse workforce. 2. Responsible for short- and long term planning for the operation of various human resources functions managed by their staff. 3. Identifies and directs human resources staff and resources to drive financial, operational, and budgetary success within the human resources department. 4. Determines and develops goals for the work of their managerial and professional staff to execute human resources initiatives efficiently and effectively. 5. Directs and monitors work assignments to ensure they are proceeding on schedule and meet the established quality standards. 6. Translates HR Department level goals into functional level goals; writes and approves functional level goals. 7. Guided by HR Department level strategy; anticipates issues; develops new solutions and/ or improved solutions executes changes new and enhanced programs consistent with University goals for maintaining a highly talented and diverse workforce. 8. Recommends, analyzes and suggests policies, procedures and practices for consideration by senior leadership. 9. Directs a staff of exempt and non-exempt employees. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education And Experience

Minimum requirement of Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or related field and six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1

Demonstrated ability to successfully engage diverse audiences through creative facilitated instructor-led training programs. Excellent communicator, presenter, facilitator, and strong writer.

Required Skill/Ability 2

Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, adult learning, education, and related topics.

Required Skill/Ability 3

Familiarity with Qualtrics or other survey applications, and applications or software for tracking training participants and analyzing or displaying outcomes.

Required Skill/Ability 4

Demonstrated ability and skill in disseminated data derived in participation in and feedback regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion training.

Required Skill/Ability 5

Ability to advise on modifying educational products based on self-created evaluation tools and informal feedback. Program planning and implementation skills.

Preferred Education, Experience And Skills

Advanced Degree, master’s degree or certification. Working knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques. Knowledge of academic curricula.
