Blue Owl Healthcare Opportunities (formerly Cowen Healthcare Investments) is a leading global life science investment firm that invests in private and private equity strategies. We leverage our investment experience to make fundamental, science driven investments into private and public life science companies. We primarily focus on the biotechnology sector with a secondary focus on tools, diagnostics and digital health. Position Overview

Blue Owl is seeking a Principal or Vice President to join our investment team. The Principal or Vice President responsibilities will include all aspects of the investment process, including sourcing, conducting diligence, and managing investments across the private and public landscape. We expect that the candidate will work closely with the senior investment team to drive investment performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop networks of academics, peer investors and management teams to source investment opportunities
  • Conduct fundamental due diligence on current and new investments. These responsibilities will include:
    • Analyzing preclinical and clinical data sets
    • Assessing relevant scientific literature
    • Conduct and interpret interviews with key KOLs
    • Understand treatment landscapes and paradigms
  • Participate in investor and medical conferences, interact with management teams, and conduct interviews with physician experts
  • Build and maintain financial models
  • Represent Blue Owl on the board of portfolio companies
  • Monitor of sector developments, competitive landscape dynamics, new data releases, and capital markets activity
  • Synthesize the above information into thematic areas of focus and company specific investment theses and effectively communicate the findings to the team
  • Selectively manage junior resources to work collaboratively on investment processes
Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in the life sciences (MD and/or Ph.D from a top tier university) is a preference but not a requirement
  • 5-10 years of work experience in life sciences investing (buyside or sell side)
  • Exceptional work ethic, detail-oriented personality, problem-solving mindset
  • A strong intellectual curiosity and desire to learn about the life sciences sector
  • Unassailable ethical standards
  • An intellectual maturity to allows one to engage in debate with ones colleagues and arrive at the right answer collectively
  • Ability to listen well and evaluate ideas objectively and collaboratively
  • Ability to think critically and multi-task in a dynamic environment
  • Works well independently as well as in a small team environment
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively as needed

It is expected that the base annual salary range for this New York City-based position will be $175,000 to $200,000. Actual salaries may vary based on factors, such as skill, experience, and qualification for the role. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus, based on factors such as individual and team performance.
