This client is seeking a motivated and ambitious Business Development Manager to join their commercial team specializing in Project Cargo in the Houston area. Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Freight & Project Forwarding sales team.
Focus on both existing and new target sectors in line with the company's strategy.
Maintain relationships with vendors and manage the network in alignment with products, markets, and trade flows.
Handle quotations, service sourcing, rates, and profit and loss management for network, offices, and key clients.
Ensure customer requirements are met with timely responses, competitive rates, and valid terms.
Source reliable and competitive freight forwarders, carriers, and transport providers and monitor their performance.
Establish and maintain Clearing & Forwarding and Project Cargo Networks.
Assist other departments/offices with freight bookings and carrier-related issues.
Manage project forwarding shipments between Commercial and Customer Service departments.
Engage prospects and customers to present and sell company services, building relationships to expand business.
Represent the company professionally at all levels, including presentations and networking events.
Provide management reporting, including business reviews, sales planning, meetings, and visit reports.
Develop and manage shipping procedures and related documentation.
Attend national and international conferences.
Engage with service providers, vendors, government agencies, business communities, and clients in the freight and project sectors while collaborating with overseas offices, commercial teams, and global office staff.
Qualifications:
Degree in logistics is valuable.
Minimum 10 years of commercial management and sales experience in Freight Forwarding or NVOCC, with at least 5 years in a management role.
Resourcefulness, commercial acumen, and strong relationship-building skills are crucial.
Good knowledge of shipping and logistics industries.
Proven ability to work in cross-functional and multicultural teams.
Strong character, initiative, creativity, innovation, and analytical skills.
Meticulous, responsible, adaptable, and positive working attitude.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Strong leadership, influencing, and collaboration skills.
Result-oriented, self-starter, and able to work in high-pressure environments.
Willingness to travel locally and regionally on short notice.
Availability after hours and flexibility in working with partners in different time zones.
Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and spoken English. Spanish is a plus.
