Construction Operations Manager

Habitat for Humanity of Omaha (“Habitat”) is one of the leading builders of residential new home and refurbished home construction in the greater-Omaha area. The Construction Operations Manager will support the Chief Construction Officer in all aspects of Habitat’s construction projects. This role emphasizes optimizing processes and ensuring operational efficiency within the Construction Department. The position reports to the Chief Construction Officer and plays a critical role in driving the success of Habitat’s mission through effective management of construction operations and processes.

Requirements

Process Management and Optimization:

  • Collaborate with Habitat teams to develop a master build schedule that meets critical project milestones for quality-built homes.
  • Build and maintain the Building Season Timeline (BST), including a 3-year plan, managing coalition/corporate schedules and relationships.
  • Implement standardized processes to enhance operational efficiency and consistency across all projects.
  • Utilize data and process mapping techniques to identify opportunities for improvement to streamline operations.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Construction Department to ensure the department is operating seamlessly and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment and integration of processes across the organization.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and operational metrics to assess performance and implement improvements as needed.
  • Analyze the annual budget to ensure cost controls are in place, furthering Habitat’s mission.

Documentation And Reporting

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of processes, procedures, and operational guidelines.
  • Prepare regular reports on operational performance, process improvements, and project status.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior management for decision-making.

Team Management and Development

  • Create job descriptions for Construction staff positions and collaborate with the HR Department to ensure changes are reflected in organizational systems and charts.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by training and mentoring staff on process improvement methodologies.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and support to construction teams, ensuring high performance and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related field. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Five years of experience in construction management, project management, supervision, and staff and volunteer development.
  • Strong project management skills, detail-oriented, with a focus on construction project management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective leadership and team-building skills.
  • Enthusiastic, team-oriented with a focus on excellent customer service.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy (Microsoft Office and construction project management software preferred).
  • Working knowledge OSHA standards and requirements.
  • Goal-oriented, success-driven, self-motivated individual.
