Contracted Student Intern- Human Rights - (240005WC)
Description
The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking to hire an intern who will support its Human Rights Division. The Office of Human Rights is looking for a motivated intern who may be interested in pursuing a career in Public Service with a focus on Mental Health Care and Advocacy for Individuals living with Mental Illness.
The Office for Human Rights is responsible for the protection of the Human Rights of all individuals receiving services and care with the Department of Mental Health. The Office also provides oversight and compliance of Human Rights State Statute(s), Regulations and Policies, and other Rights afforded to individuals receiving services, such as voting rights, for all DMH operated facilities and programs, as well as contracted and provider services and programs statewide. This is an exciting opportunity to learn more about Public Service work, and the Mental Health field, as well as the Human Rights and Individual rights of those living with Mental Illness.

Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):
- Provide planning and execution support to advance the agency's internal strategic initiatives. Internal-facing initiatives that may utilize intern support includes long-term strategic planning for DMH's behavioral health workforce.
- Example projects pertaining to the workforce initiative could include conducting stakeholder interviews, synthesizing actionable recommendations, and developing an organizational roadmap to improve a discrete aspect of workforce management.
- Provide evaluation and stakeholder management support to the agency's external-facing strategic policy priorities. External-facing policy initiatives that may utilize intern support includes evaluating the success of pilot interventions to reduce Emergency Department boarding.
- Example projects pertaining to this initiative include collaborating with internal and external stakeholder to design a measurement plan and select appropriate outcome measures.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with coordination/ management of complex projects with multiple parallel workstreams
- Experience successfully managing relationships on projects with multiple stakeholders to achieve the project's goals
- Knowledge regarding policy design and implementation, behavioral health systems, quantitative and qualitative research to develop actionable policy and/or organizational recommendations preferred
- Previous advocacy experience in Human Rights through school-based programs preferred.
- Candidates with experience working directly with policies, protocols and/or procedures is a plus
- Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.
Additional Information
- Benefits are unavailable with the exception of sick leave accruals.
- All employees will be paid on a biweekly basis and must have direct deposit.
- The salary for this position is $18- $27 an hour.
- Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Days Off: Saturday and Sunday
