Controller

Overview:

Our client, a leading national manufacturer and distributor is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join their team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, specifically within federal and state regulated industries, and possess expertise in QuickBooks, treasury, excise taxes, and warehousing. This role requires a deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), cash flow management, and asset-based lending (ABL). The Director of Accounting will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations and play a key role in developing strategies for future growth.

Duties:

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations:

• Oversee daily accounting activities including G/L , A/R/A/P, payroll.
• Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with GAAP.
• Manage month-end and year-end close processes.

Financial Management:

• Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.
• Monitor cash flow and liquidity, ensuring adequate working capital.
• Manage asset-based lending (ABL) relationships and compliance.

Tax Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local excise tax regulations.
• Prepare and file excise tax returns.
• Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations affecting the industry.

Warehouse and Inventory Management:

• Oversee accounting for inventory management and control processes.
• Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets.
• Coordinate with warehouse operations to ensure accurate inventory records.

Strategic Planning:

• Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement strategies.
• Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies.

Software and Systems:

• QuickBooks Desktop for Manufacturing and Warehousing
• Strong Excel

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or CMA designation preferred.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting/finance, with at least 3 years in a controller role within a federally/State regulated industry.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting software.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards.
• Experience with excise tax compliance and filings.
• Familiarity with warehousing and inventory management processes.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Proven track record of contributing to business growth and improving financial performance.

This is an IN OFFICE position . Can become HYBRID once work flow is established.
