Controller | Full Time Year Round

Overview

Responsible for directing all financial and accounting activities in accordance with corporate policy; responsible for supporting the achievement of revenue and income objectives, market share and guest service objectives; establishes departmental policies and procedures; develops and monitors all departmental budgets to ensure their profitable operation. As a customer focused organization, a crucial part of each employee’s job is to get and keep guests.

Responsibilities

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Hires, motivates, evaluates, and directs staff to ensure adequate guidance and resources to accomplish established goals and objectives. Ensures that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary.
  • Directs the establishment of departmental standards, guidelines and objectives and maintains other administrative processes such as budgeting and staffing to ensure proper planning, efficient operation of departments and successful achievement of resort goals.
  • Maintains and enhances a guest focused culture in all areas of responsibility.
  • Maintains schedules in compliance with regulations and authorities having jurisdiction; manages responsibilities in compliance with resort safety policies.
  • Maintains current status on legal issues and technological advances which impact the industry; maintains awareness of scope and progress of competition.
  • Effective communication skills with all levels of employees, guests and all other outside contacts.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Works with management to analyze and recommend corporate economic strategies, objectives, and policies for company.
  • Develop an annual plan and lead a semi-annual budget process to achieve organizational financial goals.
  • Prepares reports that summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, earnings, and cash flow based on past, present, and forecasted operations. Reporting includes monthly balance sheets, profit and loss statements, capital budgets, and payroll reports.
  • Provides management with timely reviews of organization’s financial status and progress in its various programs and activities.
  • Directs daily, monthly, quarterly, and yearly reporting requirements and develops and monitors controls and procedures to endure such reporting.
  • Reviews cash disbursements to ensure compliance with established procedures and releases disbursements or investigates and resolves discrepancies.
  • Facilitates audits of company’s accounts.
  • Establishes relations with local banks.
  • Participates as a member of senior staff to contribute finance and accounting perspectives to management decision making.
  • Contributing member to Boyne Resorts corporate-wide finance and accounting team.
  • Contribute to team effort by participating in Job Sharing, assuming responsibility for thecleanliness of the resort and safety of guests and employees; participating in safety meetings; accepting diverse assignments; maintain a positive and friendly attitude and demeanor in all internal and external interactions.
  • Meet service level objectives and department goals as set forth by immediate supervisor.

Responsibilities To Safety

  • Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Loon Mountain guests at all times.
  • Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor.
  • Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
  • Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures.
  • Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
  • Drive in accordance with the law and Loon Mountain policies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manages 4 full-time year-round and one seasonal employee (accounting supervisor, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cashout).
  • Responsible for the overall direction and coordination of the department.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

  • Thorough knowledge of finance and accounting procedures and regulations.
  • Understanding of corporate and property specific-policies and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of general and administrative functions required.
  • Forecasting, budget, Microsoft excel and database reporting systems, point of sale systems required. Specific ski industry and guest service background preferred.
  • BA in accounting, finance, or business preferred or equitable experience.
  • A minimum of five years’ progressive experience in all aspects of finance and accounting.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, write, and effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to comprehend and apply mathematical principles in the finance field.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
