Job Overview

Macdonald & Co. is partnered with a growing multifamily firm to appoint a Director of Asset Management who will be tasked with analyzing, monitoring, and implementing business plans for a portfolio of multifamily communities.


This role involves executing business plans, preparing annual budgets and reforecasts, and reporting to investors. The Director collaborates with operations to enhance efficiency and profitability and works with corporate and community teams to ensure compliance and maximize the value of company initiatives. Leadership is crucial for this role to ensure a continuous and tangible impact, while maintaining consistency with the organization’s policies and procedures.


Essential Functions

  • Lead weekly, monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reporting on property performance.
  • Collaborate with clients, vendors, employees, and executives to identify business strengths and weaknesses.
  • Collect and analyze reports, procedures, system designs, and other data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Assess current practices and document, record, and report findings.
  • Provide valuation targets for each asset and compare to initial underwriting.
  • Recommend improvements, including new practices, forms, reports, data collection, and/or staffing changes, and communicate these to senior staff.
  • Work with the Accounting department to provide direction on cash flow needs and forecasts.
  • Facilitate and coordinate with the Capital Markets team on financing and refinancing of communities.
  • Collaborate with employees to implement new systems and procedures successfully.
  • Promote, track, and measure compliance with program changes through appropriate data collection, reporting, and/or recordkeeping processes.
  • Review the efficacy of program changes and recommend further adaptations for continual improvement.
  • Meet with clients to gather and understand personal financial information necessary for financial planning.
  • Assess clients’ financial objectives, assets, liabilities, cash flow, insurance coverage, and tax status.
  • Develop strategies and plans to achieve financial goals of the properties.
  • Maintain knowledge of new and emerging investment trends and opportunities in both the macro and micro markets of the assigned portfolio.
  • Build additional skills and knowledge in the industry, including obtaining additional licenses and certifications as appropriate.
  • Participate in reporting requirements with Equity partners.
  • Assist the Acquisitions team in the initial underwriting of new assets.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or a relevant field; or five years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledgeable in all areas of multi-family asset management.
  • Intermediate computer skills using Yardi Voyager, various industry-specific technology, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and other computer applications.
  • Intermediate to advanced skill in creating, modifying, and interpreting Excel investor return and analytic modeling to communicate material strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats for each asset in the portfolio to the executive management team and investors.
