Job Description: Director of Purchasing
This position will oversee and participate in all functional areas and manage the
execution of Corporate Purchasing, Material Control, Inventory Management, Pricing,
Product Line Analysis and Logistics of Branch-to-Branch Transfers. Analyze current
processes and make recommendations to management regarding changes or alterations to
improve performance. Proactively and reactively support field personnel and
corporate employees as needed and necessary. Ensure monthly inventory reports are
produced and distributed to appropriate management and branches.
PURCHASING
Cultivate and maintain vendor relationships at all levels.
Serve as liaison between us and vendors as situations develop.
Negotiate and communicate corporate programs as necessary and needed
Facilitate, negotiate, and manage vendor rebate programs
Determine with Senior Management volume buy quantities
Evaluate Special Buy opportunities and assist/oversee execution
Evaluate with management new vendors and product lines
Assist in sourcing for new products
INVENTORY MANAGEMENT
Oversee inventory turnover and total inventory to meet inventory objectives
Work with branches to develop a culture of improved inventory performance
Work with branches to proactively and reactively manage dead inventory
Evaluate sales trend information with current on hands for purchasing amounts
Monitor daily purchasing for abnormal amounts with regard to trend demand
Review all branch discrepancy reports for cycle counts
Analyze product lines for profitability and consolidation opportunities
Oversee the logistics of cost-effective branch to branch inventory transfers
Oversee process for inventory devaluations due to market changes and damage
PRICING
Oversee keeping manual / replacement costs current for all products.
Oversee keeping all sell pricing to customers current for all products
Skills Needed:
5 – 10 years strong knowledge of building materials distribution industry.
Strong negotiation, analytical, and quantitative skills
Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
Effective team player and partner, as well as having an entrepreneurial spirit.
Energetic and passionate about the business
Ability to lead and manage projects independently with flexibility
Ability to travel to branches as necessary
PC literate – Word, Excel, Outlook
