Overview

We’re seeking a Lead Power Electronics Design Engineer who will lead and develop key technologies to enable adaptation of power conversion solutions to HVAC systems. This position will involve working with multi-disciplinary Subject Matter Experts in addition to interacting with global teams to leverage capabilities in areas of product development and application.

This role will be situated within a global Network of Excellence whose charter is to lead the advancement of new technology adoption into various HVAC systems across the Enterprise. This individual is expected to serve as a Subject Matter Expert within the area of Power Conversion globally for the entire organization.

Responsibilities

  • Support hardware and control architecture development of Power Electronic components for HVAC applications such as DC-DC, AC-DC and DC-AC.
  • Lead multiple projects from early prototyping through manufacturing hand-off.
  • Work with cross functional teams in areas such as SW, HW, CAD, Mechanical Design, Thermal Design, etc.
  • Collaborate with other design architects and design teams to leverage common solutions across the businesses.
  • Guide overall component choices for system design employing industry wide best practices.
  • Lead and author detailed requirements specifications at various levels of power conversion equipment.
  • Govern and lead design reviews through processes such as FMEA, DFMEA, and Risk Analysis.
  • Guide and drive short term resiliency challenges to reduce risk in the product portfolio.
  • Understand power electronics market trends and maintain key knowledge of competitive offerings.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key suppliers of solutions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key external partners, universities and National Labs.
  • Identify opportunities for utilization of emerging PE technologies in HVAC applications.
  • Develop project plans, prioritize tasks, and provide regular project updates.
  • Author Lab test plans, conduct testing, analyze and interpret results and execute design updates based on the results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and at least 10-years of work experience in Power Electronics domain with majority of experience in product development is required.
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics or Controls is preferred.
  • Knowledge in one or more of the following areas: motor drive, electrical panel design, active power filters/front ends, dc-dc converters etc.
  • Strong experience in motor control algorithms and general closed loop control concepts.
  • Previous experience working in application and testing of motor drives on complex electromechanical systems.
  • Full-cycle product development experience from concept development to manufacturing readiness and field trials.
  • Experience launching products that meet UL or CE agency standards.
  • Strong understanding in areas of firmware/software development as well as electronic hardware development.
  • Knowledge of power semiconductor devices such as MOSFETs, IGBTs, BGTs, as well as wide bandgap technologies that use SiC and GaN.
  • Experience with Hardware in Loop (HIL) based platforms such as Opal-RT, Speedgoat, dSPACE is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a Laboratory environment, author test plans, coordinate testing with lab staff and reviewing results.
  • Must be adept at report writing and presenting technical information to a wide audience.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required with good interpersonal skills, able to express concepts and ideas with clarity.

Compensation

  • $110,000 to $170,000 annual salary, depending on experience.
  • Will provide a full relocation package if needed.
