The Education Abroad Office supports Texas A&M University’s commitment to develop global leaders through transformational opportunities abroad. We engage students, faculty and staff to participate in high quality international experiences. Studying abroad encompasses a variety of international experiences including study, research, internships, volunteer opportunities and service learning programs. Study abroad opportunities are available for all students, freshmen through Ph.D. candidates. The various types of study abroad programs can be as short as a week or as long as an academic year. Students can be in a large group or study on an individual program. Programs through the Study Abroad Programs Office help broaden students’ intellectual and personal horizons, help them navigate in different environments, practice or perfect a language, and build a resume to help broaden career options.

The Education Abroad Advisor I - Exchange Programs is responsible for providing support services to students, staff, and faculty regarding high impact global educational experiences, primarily focusing on advising and assisting incoming international exchange students. Assists office leadership in providing services to students, staff, external organizations, and faculty in support of the office mission to provide a large range of international education opportunities. Actively promotes teamwork and respect for people of all backgrounds in the workplace and in all interactions with internal and external clientele. The scope is broad because it requires an understanding of international, federal, agency, and university academic regulations and procedures, as well as program development and support, study abroad advising issues, and cultural information about a broad range of countries. Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs.
Ability to comprehend and communicate technical information effectively and diplomatically.
Ability to effectively communicate with international people.
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s Degree.
Experience living, working, or studying abroad.
Experience working with unique populations of students including those who have traveled internationally.
Experience in any of the following areas: advising, working within an office setting, study abroad (volunteer/service, internships, study, or work), international travel or residence, experience with program development, experience coordinating services or events.
Essential Duties/Tasks
Advising - Provides standard advising for students, staff, external organizations, and faculty on various issues impacting global education opportunities, such as personal, financial aid, academic, health insurance and health care, travel, and cultural needs of students. Triages issues that arise during the student education abroad application process, including liaising with external and internal departments, organizations, and universities. Coordinates study abroad scholarship awards with the office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Works with Office of Registrar as needed. Has access to protected information under FERPA and HIPAA.
Program Maintenance - In conjunction with office leadership, facilitates various aspects of education abroad programs, occasionally working independently. Assists with maintenance of program and student records, database, admissions processing and other advising administrative tasks related to global high impact education opportunities, which include drafting correspondence, researching and preparing reports, creating program budgets, assisting with travel arrangements, handling various types of applications, and orienting and debriefing students and faculty. Facilitates program development with internal and external partners, including international representatives. Assists with the planning and implementation of outreach initiatives and programming activities such as faculty and student pre-departure programs, events, seminars, special topic workshops, returned student programming, and joint programming with other campus or community entities.
Office Representative - Represents office at various events or activities on and off campus. Organizes and attends programs, events, and activities during regular business hours and outside regular business hours. Serves as a member of a team focused on such areas as scholarship administration, publicity and recruitment, database management, internships, short-term programs, non-TAMU programs, Passport Acceptance Agent, and/or financial aid or scholarship point person.
Committees and Team Support - Serves on inter-office committees, teams, and workgroups in collaborative efforts as required. Advises student organizations. Assists with continuous improvement efforts in the office. Occasionally travels off campus to fulfill office business and responsibilities. Assists in the coordination of efforts between various on and off campus entities.
