Education and Volunteer Coordinator (part-time)

  • Bachelor's degree in education, environmental sciences, or a related field
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in program development.
  • General knowledge of Alabama’s K-12 programs and teaching requirements
  • General knowledge of Alabama college/university and adult education programs


Preferred Qualificaitons

  • Prior classroom teaching experience
  • Knowledge of community resources and organizations.
  • Experience in Volunteer coordination
  • Educational Program Development
  • Develop and implement educational programs and workshops in alignment with the city’s missions and objectives.
  • Create educational materials and resources for various target audiences, such as students, community members, and volunteers.
  • Assist in developing short-range and long-range plans for educational programs.
  • Coordinate development, updates and revisions to all educational program materials.
  • Oversee summer camps at Aldridge Gardens and other city venues.
  • Coordinate with various groups and lead field trips at Aldridge Gardens and other city venues.
  • Volunteer Recruitment
  • Develop and execute strategies for recruiting and retaining volunteers.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with potential volunteer sources, including schools, universities, community organizations, and local businesses.
  • Coordinate volunteer orientations and training sessions.
  • Volunteer Coordination
  • Act as a conduit for volunteers and city events such as SEC Baseball, Arbor Day, Celebrate Hoover and other city events/programming.
  • Assign and manage volunteer tasks, ensuring their efforts are effectively utilized.
  • Provide ongoing support and supervision to volunteers, helping them meet their goals and objectives.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive volunteer community.
  • Community Engagement
  • Collaborate with schools, community groups, and other stakeholders to promote educational initiatives and engage the community.
  • Attend relevant events and meetings to represent the City of Hoover and share information about volunteer opportunities and educational programs.
  • Program Evaluation
  • Develop and implement methods for assessing the impact and effectiveness of educational programs and volunteer efforts.
  • Gather feedback from volunteers, educators, and program participants to make continuous improvements.
  • Reporting and Documentation
  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer data, educational program materials, and progress reports.
  • Generate regular reports for internal and external stakeholders.
