Grace is hiring an on-site Engineering & Technical Manager for our 71st Street Chicago, IL site who will report to the regional maintenance & engineering manager. This position will be responsible for the plant’s project engineering, maintenance department, and technical effectiveness.  Reporting to the role are the site’s project engineers, the maintenance supervisor and team, and maintenance engineers. This is a site leadership position that plays a critical role in leading and driving business and operational objectives to include Environmental Health and Safety, Quality, Productivity, and Cost Effectiveness.

Grace’s site at 4099 West 71st street employs ~100 people and manufactures catalysts used in petroleum refining and specialty petrochemical industries for removing sulfur, nitrogen, and other impurities from crude oil streams. Responsibilities
  • Supports leaders in achieving departmental targets. Directly responsible for managing the maintenance and project engineering teams; is a contributor to EHS, quality, operations, and site leadership goals.
  • Manages the engagement, performance, and development of staff through daily, visible interaction with team members.  Promotes a collaborative, friendly culture.
  • Maintenance metrics: Establishes and tracks site maintenance KPIs; works with the regional manager on reliability efforts to improve process equipment reliability and OEE.
  • Cost management: Tracks maintenance spend (including spare parts) to provide reliable forecasting of cost.
  • Project management: Works with corporate resources to manage capital & expense projects and provide support and guidance to project engineers.
  • Reviews & creates maintenance processes and procedures for improvement in productivity, cost reduction, process improvements, etc.
  • Supports production operations ensuring safe, timely, and efficient maintenance of all operations equipment and assets.
  • Cooperates with EHS to conduct safety inspections and implement necessary corrective actions. Ensures the safety management of maintenance and operations personnel.
Required Qualifications
  • BS degree in Engineering or related field
  • 8+ years of operations experience in the chemical industry with relevant leadership/management experience
  • Aptitude for chemical plant equipment operations and troubleshooting.
  • Strong learning ability that demonstrates curiosity and innovative ways of doing things.
  • Strong bias to action.
  • Demonstrated project engineering and maintenance management skills.
  • Ability to speak publicly with confidence and poise.
  • Strong sense of ambition, self-motivation, and self-discipline.
  • Highly developed interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements for chemical plants
  • Experience developing and managing engineers on capital projects
