Job Summary

About The Course

This is a course designed to support us to have an institutional approach to equity, diversity, and inclusion with our work. This tool has inclusion and accountability built in, so that we know that our decisions and outcomes were thoroughly examined and explored. Here at SLCC , we are an open-access institution, and we have a commitment to ensure that everyone has access to education in our community. Our mission, vision, and values provide us with direction for how we approach our work. Our strategic plan provides us with how we accomplish that and the Equity Compass is designed to give us a tool to structure it.

The Compass is designed as a tool to support our efforts in five areas: assess, engage and plan, implement, examine data, and measure. This will help us create transformation in all of the work that we do on our campuses, in our classrooms, and in the community.

This course will support employees to delve deeper into the areas that they are designing or reevaluating. As participants move through the course, they will be covering those five areas above. Each of the five areas will come along with different literature and activities. In some sections there will be people who will share examples of the work that they have done using the compass and they will also talk about their expertise in the areas.

There are 4 goals for utilizing the compass at SLCC :
