WORK SCHEDULE


  • 100% FTE – 40 hours per week
  • Day Shift – UW MEDICINE ITS SERVICES CORE HOURS ARE 07:00 – 16:00 (PST), Monday-Friday POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
  • Lead, mentor, coach, and manage a team of highly skilled technical and business application professionals.
  • Fulfill managerial functions such as making hiring decisions and recommendations for separations, reclassification recommendations, salary adjustment recommendations, handling complaints and grievances as well as generally planning, assigning, and approving the work of the team, quality assurance, and annual reviews with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Successfully build and manage trusting relationships with stakeholders to become an “insider” and fully understand the intricacies of their workflows.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for incidents reported by Pathologists and clinical and operations staff associated with pathology systems (Epic Beaker).
  • Manage large department projects such as system upgrades, interface development, imaging systems software selection, and systems integration initiatives. DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION UW Medicine IT Services (ITS) is a shared services organization that supports all of UW Medicine. UW Medicine is comprised of Harborview Medical Center (HMC), UW Medical Center-Montlake Campus (UWMC-Montlake), UW Medical Center-Northwest Campus (UWMC-NW), Valley Medical Center (VMC), UW Medicine Primary Care (UWMPC), UW Physicians (UWP), UW School of Medicine (SOM), and Airlift Northwest (ALNW). ITS is responsible for the ongoing support and maintenance of the infrastructure and applications which support all these institutions, along with the implementation of new services and applications that are used to support and further the UW Medicine mission.



PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES


  • You implement and sustain strong processes and capabilities through the enhancement, deployment, and maintenance of methods, metrics, tools, training, education, and communication.
  • You manage assigned budget(s) and resources.
  • You ensure that systems operate accurately, reliably, and efficiently, researching and analyzing system performance and planning improvement measures and working closely with staff to analyze problems and implement solutions.
  • You monitor tickets to ensure appropriate response time.
  • You communicate, coordinate, and facilitate planned system maintenance events and responses to unplanned system incidents/outages.
  • You ensure proper monitoring of system availability and performance and report associated metrics to manage a team of highly skilled analysts and engineers including salary administration, reviews, status reporting, on call scheduling, coaching, training, and overall guidance.
  • You lead, organize, and positively influence a team of professionals.
  • You instill UW Medicine and ITS vision and guiding principles to all staff, implementing mission-oriented HR practices.
  • You promote an environment that is attractive to the employee and that facilitates the recruitment and retention of professional, technical, and support staff, including, but not limited to, staff development, recognition, motivation, and communications. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • 6+ years of experience which should include the below.
  • 4+ years’ experience supervising/leading information systems professionals. This experience should include leading a team(s) of EHR IT professionals with responsibility for training, assigning, scheduling and prioritizing work, reviewing completed work assignments, and performance management.
  • 4+ years’ managing system vendor relationships.
  • 4+ years’ involvement with process improvement.
  • 3+ years' professional work experience performing system design, writing technical specifications for, configuring, and/or implementing Epic systems.
  • Demonstrated management and leadership capabilities with proven ability to influence in matrix environment.
  • Proven ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and provide guidance and leadership to staff.
  • Healthcare industry experience, including experience with clinical information systems.
  • Knowledge of all phases of software development lifecycle for vendor supplied software. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is an Information Technology deadline-driven work environment.
  • The individual in this position is expected to work normal daytime hours. The work may be performed in either an office environment or by telecommuting with manager approval, during normal business hours; however, significant off-hours and weekends may be needed to resolve problems and respond to emergencies. This individual is expected to be available for emergencies (business continuity/disaster recovery efforts) on a 24x7 basis as needed.
  • Must coordinate projects without direct supervisory authority.
  • Must work within the constraints of multiple technical environments.
  • The individual in this position must learn many organizational structures and cultures and continually foster collaboration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
