Promise Zones are high poverty communities where the federal government partners with local leaders to increase economic activity, improve educational opportunities, leverage private investment, reduce violent crime, enhance public health, and address other priorities identified by the community. The work of the North Minneapolis Promise Zone (NMPZ) is focused on three key areas: 1. Build a more Inclusive Economy that supports the NMPZ as a destination for business growth; 2. Improve Health & Safety of NMPZ residents; & 3. Promote stable housing for all NMPZ residents. The NMPZ Economic Development Coordinator VISTA will have a key role in supporting economic development and livability efforts for small businesses and emerging developers.

Member Duties : Identify 1-3 economic development projects related to business development, commercial property maintenance and/or Blue Line Light Rail Transit; and work to support securing resources for implementation of those projects. Track economic trends, policy changes and/or other relevant research which impacts economic development in North Minneapolis, and share information widely with community stakeholders including residents, small business owners and community-based agencies.
