Job Title: Naval Architect/Assistant Dockmaster


Location: New York City Metro


Our client is a leading ship repair company dedicated to providing top-notch services to a diverse range of vessels. With a commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, they are currently seeking a motivated and talented Naval Architect/Jr. Dockmaster to join their team in the New York City area.


Position Overview:

The Naval Architect/Jr. Dockmaster will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the docking and repair processes of various vessels. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and hands-on experience in ship repair and maintenance. The successful candidate will work closely with senior dockmasters and the operations team to ensure efficient and safe docking operations.


Key Responsibilities:


Docking Operations:

  • Assist in planning and executing docking and undocking operations.
  • Conduct inspections and assessments of vessels before and after docking.
  • Coordinate with the operations team to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all activities.


Design and Engineering:

  • Utilize AUTOCAD software for drafting and modeling
  • Perform stability and structural analyses as required.
  • Develop blocking plans and load calculations


Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all operations adhere to environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
  • Implement and promote best practices for workplace safety.


Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience on a shipyard is required.
  • 1-3+ years of experience in ship repair, marine engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.
  • Strong understanding of ship structures, stability, and systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards.
  • Physical ability to conduct inspections and work in a shipyard environment.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Previous experience in a dockmaster role or similar capacity.
  • Experience with graving docks.
  • Certifications related to maritime safety and operations.
