Job Title: Naval Architect/Assistant Dockmaster
Location: New York City Metro
Our client is a leading ship repair company dedicated to providing top-notch services to a diverse range of vessels. With a commitment to quality, safety, and innovation, they are currently seeking a motivated and talented Naval Architect/Jr. Dockmaster to join their team in the New York City area.
Position Overview:
The Naval Architect/Jr. Dockmaster will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing the docking and repair processes of various vessels. This position requires a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and hands-on experience in ship repair and maintenance. The successful candidate will work closely with senior dockmasters and the operations team to ensure efficient and safe docking operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Docking Operations:
- Assist in planning and executing docking and undocking operations.
- Conduct inspections and assessments of vessels before and after docking.
- Coordinate with the operations team to ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all activities.
Design and Engineering:
- Utilize AUTOCAD software for drafting and modeling
- Perform stability and structural analyses as required.
- Develop blocking plans and load calculations
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure all operations adhere to environmental, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
- Implement and promote best practices for workplace safety.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience on a shipyard is required.
- 1-3+ years of experience in ship repair, marine engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant engineering tools.
- Strong understanding of ship structures, stability, and systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and industry standards.
- Physical ability to conduct inspections and work in a shipyard environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a dockmaster role or similar capacity.
- Experience with graving docks.
- Certifications related to maritime safety and operations.
