Project Manager I

South Carolina Department of Commerce is seeking a Project Manager to join our Business Incentives and Community Development Division. The Project Manager works to enhance the economic competitiveness of South Carolina’s rural communities through program innovation and grant funding maximization. The position also assists in the development, implementation, and administration of a variety of programs designed to create sustainable growth and economic opportunity and addresses social priorities in our rural communities. The Project Manager will also collaborate with county and community leadership to identify areas of need and opportunity.

Job Responsibilities:

• Assists Program Manager with the administration of Rural Initiative, Growing Rural Communities, and Strategic Planning Initiative grant programs.
• Assists county and community leaders with creating plans for economic development.
• Responsible for all aspects of the South Carolina Rural Summit including venue and lodging selection, securing sponsorships, agenda development, speaker selection, event promotion & registration, and post-event evaluations. 
• Identifies opportunities for collaboration with internal and external partners to benefit South Carolina’s rural communities.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor’s degree and relevant project management experience.

Knowledge of economic development practices and trends; ability to develop, organize, and facilitate economic development programming including budgeting and other related activities; ability to advise and guide local leadership to determine viable improvement goals and projects; ability to establish and build effective working relationships with staff and other diverse groups. Position requires excellent written and oral communication skills, and experience with event planning.

Additional Comments

Position requires moderate in-state travel and occasional overnight travel.
