Position Focus

This position will report to the Director of Equity, Belonging and Student Life providing high level strategic and administrative support to the Music In Schools Initiative. In collaboration with the Director of Equity, Belonging, and Student Life, this position will manage the biennial Symposium on Music in Schools and use the results of symposia to inform the work of the program, its constituencies, and partners.

Working closely with the Director of Equity, Belonging and Student Life and the Program Manager of the Music in Schools Initiative, this position will provide administrative and logistical support for all MISI programs; paraprofessional support, all city ensembles, teaching artist practicums, and the Morse Summer Music Academy. This position will handle logistics for the program including the application process (registration and auditions,) rehearsals and concerts. This Position will involve email communications, compliance with Yale youth program requirements, distribution of music, event management, project management, overseeing student administrative workers, and working alongside the Program Manager in building relationships across New Haven arts learning ecosystem.

Receives and schedules client referrals, resolve scheduling conflicts, formats, keyboards, edits and proofreads correspondence and other materials for paraprofessional support, all city ensembles, teaching artist practicums, and the Morse Summer Music Academy. Gathers, compiles and records data. Creates reports and summarizes findings. Composes general correspondence and written materials

Fosters collaboration between the Music In School’s Initiative and New Haven’s “arts learning ecosystem” as well as regional and national partners in service of MISI’s programs. Oversees and instructs student administrative staff. Oversees New Haven Promise summer interns.

Essential Duties

  • Participate in implementing professional development programs, workshops, and symposia for students, faculty, and staff related to equity and belonging initiatives.2. With a high degree of discretion and confidentiality, support the Office of Student Life activities, including student government, affinity/belonging groups, and career strategies.3. Serve as the principal source of information to the School of Music, Yale community, and other constituents regarding all programming, policies, and procedures for the Office of Student Life.4. Participate in the strategic planning for the Music in Schools Initiative’s biennial Symposium.5. Manage and oversee the biennial Symposium; coordinate all related events and logistics pertaining to guest attendance. Develop policy documents and conduct research on topics relevant to the Symposium. Present the results of symposia to local, state, and national audiences. Lead the writing and publication process for national audience.6. As assigned by the Dean, represent the School of Music in university-wide initiatives. Facilitate robust partnerships throughout the New Haven community, including New Haven Public Schools and community music organizations.7. Oversee New Haven Promise summer interns.8. Foster the collaboration and development of New Haven’s “music education ecosystem.”9. Coordinate travel for the Director of Equity, Belonging, and Student Life and others as needed.10. Monitor expenditures and process monthly expense reports for the Director of Equity, Belonging, and Student Life and others as needed.11. Perform additional functions incidental to office activities and events as required.

Required Education And Experience

Bachelor's Degree in a related field and four years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience.
