Introduction

The Department of Health Services (DHS) Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is currently recruiting for a part-time Psychologist in the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC).

MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program. MMHI is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system. Our overall service delivery goal is to provide specialized services in treatment, research, training and consultation.

Position Summary

Duties

As a Psychologist, you will function as an integral part of the treatment philosophies and practices at the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC.) Duties include:

  • providing consultation, training, teaching, research, program evaluation, and other consultative functions concerning juvenile assessment and treatment.
  • providing clinical leadership and consultative role in the assessment of youth needs and the development, adjustment, and explication of appropriate treatment interventions with the juvenile population.
  • providing training for staff in relevant topic areas and may serve in an advisory role to MJTC supervisors, staff and students.
  • providing research and program evaluation activities conducted as part of the overall quality improvement efforts of the program.

Salary Information

The starting pay is up to $49.06 per hour or up to the appointment maximum at the time of the appointment, depending on qualifications. There’s also a $6.00 per hour add-on for an approved Doctorate and up to a $5.00 per hour add-on for Wisconsin licensure. A 12-month probationary period is required.

A $2,000 sign-on bonus applies to those with no prior state service in the last five years; who stay with MMHI until completing probation. Bonus will be split, $1,000 upon hire and $1,000 after completing probation. Must sign an agreement to remain in the position until completing probation. Employees who do not remain in the position for any reason through the probationary period, must reimburse DHS the sign-on bonus, unless DHS agrees otherwise.

Pay for current or former state employees is set based upon the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Psychologist – Licensed and the pay schedule/range is 12/60.

Job Details

All applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a Caregiver background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.

All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by the facility or medical personnel directed by the facility within 30 days of the start date.

DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified candidates must have:

  • Licensed or eligibility** to obtain licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Wisconsin. Licensure must be obtained by time of appointment. Please refer to the WI Department of Safety and Professional Services website for more information on licensing.
  • Experience working in a secure hospital setting.

A well-qualified candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • Established ability to carry out research related to juveniles.
  • Academic and professional teaching experience in areas concerning psychiatric treatment of juveniles, knowledge of juvenile laws and policies.
  • Experience with assessment and treatment of adolescents and juveniles in secure hospital settings, development of programming theory and practice for this population, and consultation for providers on the relevant topic areas.
  • Eligibility means the candidate has applied and is in the process of obtaining a license in the State of Wisconsin.
