Overview
The Science Writer/Editor will contribute their scientific reporting expertise and understanding of biomedical science to the planning and creation of scientific communications including grant writing, progress reports, and scientific manuscripts. Incumbent will work with the Principal Investigator to formulate and produce articles and grants primarily. Also will produce some materials for a lay audience that promote understanding of fundamental mechanisms of protective adaptive T cell immunity involved in destruction of tumors and pathogen-infected cells. This will support the research mission at Dana-Farber and in furtherance of understanding molecular, cellular, and structural biology components as applied toward these goals.
This is a 20 hour per week hybrid position with a combination of on-site at Dana-Farber in Boston and remote work if desired.

Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A Bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field and/or a scientific discipline and a minimum of 5 years of professional writing, editing and publications experience, with at least 3 of those years dedicated to science writing and editing. PHD in biomedical science is strongly preferred.
A proven track record of high productivity and high quality.

Responsibilities
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as a scientific writer, editor and source for content planning for a wide variety of adaptive T-cell biology efforts of fundamental as well as translational import.
- Plan, create write, revise and format scientific communications including grant writing and progress reports. Develop visually compelling scientific illustrations, scientific figures and tables to incorporate into these communications.
- Develop and revise scientific manuscripts, including scientific figures and tables. Submit articles to journals and manage follow up communication.
- Formulate and produce articles and publicity materials that promote understanding and support for fundraising.
- Write, ghost write, and edit materials for a wide array of non-publication projects, including letters, memos, scientific symposia, and research seminars.
- Line edit and/or proofread manuscripts, grants and the like.
- Maintain contact with scientific, clinical and administrative staff in all areas of the Institute to stay current with breaking research and major events.
- Work with a web team to organize, develop, write, and edit content of our laboratory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Thorough understanding of basic biomedical science and some familiarity with clinical medicine.
- Ability to research and obtain scientific background material from a wide variety of sources.
- Exceptional ability to understand and translate scientific content into reports and manuscripts.
- Facile capacity to edit and revise researchers’ copy, reference using Endnote, improving readability while ensuring accuracy.
- Ability to write thoughtfully and prolifically under tight deadline pressure, translating difficult science into lay language for news releases and articles.
- Exceptional editing and proofreading skills and knowledge of grammar and spelling.
- Ability to build relationships with senior-level scientists, clinical investigators, and younger scientists in the group.
- Versatility to edit and revise writings of individuals with diverse background and languages.
