Senior Business Development Manager

Our client, a government agency in Western Australia, is seeking a highly qualified Senior Business Development Manager to join their Americas Hub team in Texas. The Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science, and Innovation is Western Australia's lead agency for economic development, international trade and investment, and tourism. It also leads the promotion and development of the defense, international education, science, and innovation sectors in Western Australia.

The Americas Hub of Invest and Trade Western Australia facilitates WA Government trade and investment objectives in the Americas region and promotes trade and investment between the region and WA. The office is supported by the Invest and Trade WA division within the Department based in Perth, Australia.

The Senior Business Development Manager plays a key role in identifying, developing, and promoting business development opportunities and in attracting and facilitating investment from the Americas to Western Australia (WA).

As the Senior Business Development Manager, the successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Provide expert market analysis and strategic advice to clients/customers on go-to-market pathways and the development of new market entry and/or growth plans.
  • Provides strategic advice to the Commissioner on investment and trade opportunities in the United States and broader Americas region.
  • Develop and deliver complex investment attraction strategies to promote WA as a location for foreign direct investment and business development in WA across priority industry and growth sectors.
  • Development and implementation of relevant Americas Sector Strategy and Business Plan.
  • Initiate, plan, and manage programs and activities to generate interest and awareness of the investment and business development potential for WA businesses in the Americas.
  • Develop and participate in events, conferences, exhibitions, presentations, roadshows, and meetings in the Americas region to promote the State’s interests in targeted sectors aligned with DiversifyWA and Future State.
  • Represent the office and the Commissioner as required, including formal visitations.
  • Develops and maintains extensive, effective, and collaborative working relationships and networks representing Invest & Trade Western Australia companies, government agencies and relevant business communities of the USA and in Western Australia.
  • Utilize networks and relationships to facilitate business relationships between WA and agencies, institutions, and companies from the Americas region.
  • Maintains currency of knowledge of regional trends, undertakes industry and market analysis by means of research to identify potential value addition, trade and investment opportunities for Western Australia and develops insight content accordingly.
  • Ensures strong working relationships within the Department, Austrade, other Australian Government, and allied industry bodies.
  • Responds to qualified requests for information and engagement from clients in the priority sectors and other sectors as relevant.
  • Responds to requests and reporting requirements from the Department in a timely and high-quality manner.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of the Invest and Trade Western Australia Americas Hub office systems, continuous improvement in ways of working and business planning across all areas.

Key Requirements

  • Considerable experience in and/or sound understanding of the investment and trade activities in the priority industry sectors in Western Australia and Australia for the United States and broader Americas market.
  • Strong professional networks across one or more the Diversify WA and Future State priority sectors (energy, mining & METs, defense industries, space industries, ICT & cyber including cybersecurity, innovation & start-ups, health and medical life sciences, investment)
  • Ability to build relationships with key industry and business stakeholders, governments, and professional networks.
  • Project Management and budgeting skills.
  • Strong verbal and written English language skills.
  • Strong commercial acumen.
  • Strong knowledge, experience, and networks in the United States in at least one of the priority sectors.
