Senior Coordinator of Lawyer Talent Development

King & Spalding, a leading global law firm named by American Lawyer as the Best Law Firm of 2023, is seeking a Senior Coordinator of Lawyer Talent Development to join an innovative team that leads the firm’s lawyer recruiting, professional development, and diversity & inclusion initiatives globally. The Senior Coordinator will work primarily with the firm’s Talent Partner, Chief Recruiting Officer, and Firmwide Director of Lawyer Talent (as well as others in the department) on the design, execution, and continuous improvement of evaluation and compensation processes for all lawyers, from junior associates through equity partners. Other responsibilities include management of lawyer coaching programs, the part-time lawyer program, and the lawyer alumni program. The Senior Coordinator will work collaboratively with firm talent committees, lawyers, and business professionals across the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Through strategic project management, support the execution of these critical talent processes each year, ensuring they are completed in an effective and efficient manner:
    • Associate evaluations
    • Associate salary/bonus
    • Partner (Equity and Income) and Counsel promotions
    • Partner (Equity and Income) and Counsel evaluations and compensation
    • Responsibilities include drafting of annual process calendars and communications to associates, partners, and others; coordination with other departments including Information Technology and Finance to ready and maintain evaluation and compensation systems and information; and problem-solving and responding to questions about these processes from stakeholders.
  • Identify, design, and implement improvements in these processes on a continuous basis in alignment with the firm’s written strategy, and with consideration of metrics and data, market factors, and best practices in relevant industries.
  • Collect, manage, and analyze data (including lawyer performance metrics) and other information (including market information) related to talent to help inform decisions, working with others in the firm to ensure data and information is maintained in a way that allows efficient access and use.
  • Manage the firm’s program for part-time lawyers, including working with individual lawyers to establish part-time arrangements and tracking performance against arrangements.
  • Support various group coaching programs for lawyers, including those focused on business and leadership development.
  • Support aspects of the firm’s lawyer alumni programs.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates are collaborative, innovative, driven to excel, and passionate about strengthening the firm’s lawyer talent initiatives. They are able to envision the big picture goal while also attending to the details necessary to effectively execute the work. Other qualifications include:

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • At least 2 years’ work experience in talent development or human resources at a law firm or professional services firm is preferred; however, candidates with similar experience from other industries and recent college graduates with some work experience may also be considered.
  • Sophisticated analytical and quantitative abilities, with skill in data storytelling and using analytical insights to influence decisions.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, able to ask relevant questions and solve complex problems in creative and sustainable ways.
  • Effective influencing and networking skills that result in collaborative relationships across the firm.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining poise under pressure.
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the capability to work autonomously and make independent decisions.
  • Able to respect, protect, and maintain highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office tools including Excel and PowerPoint
  • Passionate about continuous improvement with a strong desire to continue learning to stay relevant to business changes and trends.

Additional Items:

This position is hybrid with potential to work remotely 1-2 days a week, with flexibility as needed for greater office presence due to work needs. Some travel could be necessary (e.g., a few times a year).

New York Applicants: The anticipated full-time annualized salary range $80,000 - $100,000. The salary offer will be contingent upon various factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, internal equity, market data, job location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

Washington, D.C. Applicants: The anticipated full-time annualized salary range $77,242. - $96,000. The salary offer will be contingent upon various factors, including but not limited to, relevant experience, internal equity, market data, job location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
