Who you are

To advance Understood’s mission and to further our impact, we’re hiring a Senior Partnerships Manager- Nonprofits, to drive the development of new partnerships and renewals, reporting to our Head of Public Partnerships. The ideal candidate will have experience identifying, cultivating, and stewarding strategic relationships with key stakeholders at large and mid-size nonprofit organizations to expand reach and impact, including public-private partnerships. This candidate will be a natural relationship builder and have a natural inclination to seek and secure new partnership opportunities that support the Understood mission. A successful candidate will be prepared to develop new partnerships promoting accessibility, tech-enabled learning, and behavioral health.

What you’ll do

  • Identify and target potential partners through research, networking, and landscape analysis, ensuring alignment between partner needs and the organization’s mission.
  • Develop and deliver partnership concepts and proposals designed to advance our mission through increased awareness and engagement with Understood resources.
  • Pursue opportunities to integrate Understood resources and capabilities with partner strategies to advance our mission through other organizations and platforms.
  • Maintain a healthy pipeline of partner opportunities, with the ability to efficiently move new opportunities from pitching concepts to secured agreements.
  • Identify and develop opportunities to expand and renew active partnerships.
  • Develop joint grant proposals with nonprofit partners to secure institutional giving.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, communications, content, product, research, etc. teams to ensure alignment and maximize opportunities for growth.
  • Regularly demonstrate progress with public partnerships team leadership regarding the status and forecast of partnership opportunities to ensure cross-team awareness.
  • Proactively support leadership with fresh ideas and perspectives that translate into new partnership opportunities to drive team goals.
  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with partners, understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions to meet their objectives.

Must-haves

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role/capacity, with a proven track record of measurable contribution to team successes.
  • Working knowledge of current nonprofit and social impact landscape, inclusive of current market trends, decision-makers, and potential partner’s “fit” with Understood mission.
  • Possess a natural inclination, willingness, and aptitude for networking, external engagement, revenue-generation when appropriate, and promoting the Understood mission.
  • Willingness to travel to and represent Understood at relevant conferences and various other networking events for lead generation.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas, drive proposal development and presentation, and represent the Understood organization externally and internally with professionalism and poise.
  • Intuitively understands when to receive feedback and direction and when to assert autonomy and "own" a project.
  • Committed to embodying and being a steward of our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
  • Familiarity with CRM management (ie. Monday, Salesforce, Hubspot, etc.)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel especially) and Google products (Sheets, Drive, Docs, etc.)

Nice-to-haves

  • An existing network of contacts at large and mid-size nonprofits whose impact priorities align with the Understood mission.
  • A creative, big-idea thinker who consistently brings forth new partnership ideas or opportunities to broaden the scope of the public partnerships team’s work.

The base salary range for this role is minimum $110,000 - $130,000 maximum, depending on years of experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports wellness for our team members and their families. You can learn more about our benefits and offerings.
