About The Job

The Interface Engineer is responsible for the analysis, design, implementation, and maintenance of Workday, HL7 and/or other system integration functions as assigned by the Integration Manager. The Interface Engineer also leads integration activities related to integration architecture and design for clinical and business applications; works directly with analysts and vendors on interface planning, design, research, analysis, and recommends emerging integration solutions to improve and enhance existing application integration.

What You’ll Do

  • Configure, install, manage, and maintain Workday, HL7, ADT, and/or other interface/integration systems as assigned by the Integration Manager.
  • Lead requirement gathering and consult with customers, analysts, and vendors to identify current operating procedures and interface specifications to determine interface requirements which align with project scopes and objectives to meet the customer’s needs quickly and successfully.
  • Perform interface design, programming, upgrades, testing and implementation of existing and new Workday and/or HL7 interfaces (as assigned by Integration Manager) to allow electronic data transfer between systems and downstream ancillary applications.
  • Develop interface specifications for Workday and the interface engine to translate, transform and archive both HL7 and/or Workday messages as assigned by the Integration Manager.
  • Thoroughly understand interface transactions and recommend interface solutions to improve integration and/or workflow processes.
  • Develop and implement accurate integration specifications and standards enterprise wide.
  • Effectively participate in testing and issue resolution of new interfaces, new applications, and upgrades to existing interfaces or applications.
  • Provide effective monitoring and troubleshooting of complex issues for all operational interfaces, including, but not limited to, basic network related issues.
  • Maintain technical proficiencies on the operating system and current and emerging programming languages and tools for the assigned system(s).
  • Work in conjunction with the System and Application Analysts to troubleshoot system, program, and database problems which effect system and application performance.
  • Provide oversight and quality assurance for the programming services provided by software vendors, consultants, or other technical resources, including review and/or development of specifications and other project documentation.
  • Maintain appropriate security for assigned systems, in accordance with HIPAA and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Regularly identify improvements and enhancements to assigned systems. Maintain an annual strategic plan for each assigned system to ensure continuous optimizations and improvements.

Who You Are

Education: Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

Licensure/Certification: Vendor required certification in good standing (or proficiency if vendor accepts) for applications/modules employee is assigned to support. If not currently certified (or proficient) employee will have 6 months from their DOH (Date of Hire) or DOT (Date of Transfer) into a position that requires certification (proficiency) required. Industry-standard certifications, HL7, EDI, JavaScript, EPIC Bridges, Rhapsody.

Experience: A minimum of three-five (3-5) years of experience in Information Technology or a comparable field supporting and maintaining HL7, Workday and/or integrated systems required. A minimum of five (5) years of IT experience implementing systems in a multi-vendor healthcare environment preferred.
