Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller to join their dynamic team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring smooth financial operations, from managing daily accounting tasks to overseeing inventory accounting.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller, you will play an integral role in shaping the financial landscape of our client's organisation. Your expertise will ensure the smooth running of financial operations, from managing daily accounting tasks to ensuring compliance with GAAP. You will also have the opportunity to support process improvement projects, driving efficiency across the business. Your responsibilities will extend to managing sales tax compliance and filings, as well as overseeing inventory accounting. This role offers the chance to broaden your skills by cross-training in all aspects of the accounting cycle.
Perform daily and weekly accounting tasks for timely monthly and year-end close, including journal entries
Ensure compliance with GAAP and company policies
Prepare and analyse account reconciliations
Provide assistance to outside auditors, gathering necessary account information and documents for annual and ad hoc audits
Support process improvement projects driving efficiency and compliance
Manage Sales Tax compliance and filings
Oversee accounting for inventory including obsolescence reserves, physical inventory valuation and reconciliation
Support Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable functions
Cross-train to learn full accounting cycle and processes
Participate in ad-hoc accounting projects
What You Bring
The ideal candidate for the Senior Accountant/Assistant Controller position brings a wealth of experience in multi-channel organisations. With a strong foundation in Accounting, you are well-versed in GAAP and have a proven track record of managing sales tax compliance and filings. Your experience with physical inventory valuation and reconciliation will be invaluable in this role. You are adept at using advanced Excel functions and have direct experience with EDI, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable. Familiarity with Microsoft Business Central/Navision, Shopify, Power BI, and Avalara would be advantageous.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA preferred
5-10 years of experience in a multi-channel organisation, preferably within Beauty or comparable industries
Strong understanding of sales tax compliance/Wayfair and sales tax filings
Experience overseeing Physical Inventory valuation and reconciliation
Proficiency in advanced Excel (v-lookups, pivot tables, charting)
Direct experience with EDI, Accounts receivable and Accounts Payable
Experience with Microsoft Business Central/Navision, Shopify, Power BI and Avalara desirable
