The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for ongoing maintenance of the Cost Accounting System and the analysis of standard costs, purchase price, cost adjustment variances and analysis of cycle count and inventory adjustments. Reports to Director of Finance and Controller. Located at Unigen Corporation in Newark, CA.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Maintain the Cost Accounting System through data analysis and management
Prepare journal entries
Maintain and reconcile ledger accounts
Monitor cycle count program and report cycle count results; Monitor and report sourcing and freight cost by commodity group,
Analyze cost and purchase price variances
Provide management with key performance reports;
Monitor, analyze, and update standard costs
Review standard and actual costs for inaccuracies
Approve attrition adjustments by UHAN warehouse
Maintain Customer Assets Register
Close Production Work Orders
Reconcile GL Accounts
Resolve miscellaneous inventory issues
Reconcile transactions
Collect and monitor cost related data, prepare reports, and coordinate/communicate financial audit of the Cost Accounting System, ensuring that established procedures are followed
Audit warehouse inventory
Assist with month-end close of the general ledger, bi-annual bank and third-party audits
Interact with outside auditors, respond to inquires, provide information and reports
Maintain customer assets register and facilitate periodic audits
Provide revenue and aged inventory reports to management
Support in writing internal procedures as required
Manage month-end closing activities
Manage the local plants’ month-end closing activities
Run all closing functions and reports, and audit the system report balances to ensure accuracy and balancing
Prepare, manage and audit the costing and inventory financial close
Prepare and approve monthly journal vouchers, inventory reconciliation, review aged work orders, prepare earned labor and overhead schedule, review purchase price variance analysis, standard cost update analysis, along with other required schedules
Prepare for and coordinate with the financial auditors for the interim and year-end financial audit and the semiannual bank audits pertaining to the areas of costing and inventory
Prepare schedules for management about status of inventory, report necessary inventory adjustments and obtain required approvals
Other duties and responsibilities related to Cost Accountant as assigned
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
CMA or CPA preferred,
GAAP fundamentals,
Minimum 10 years of experience with financial analysis, cost accounting and general ledger,
Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Pay Range: $88,000 - $105,000
