System Operations Specialist

This is a full-time, twelve month, System Operations Specialist position at Caesar Rodney School District.

Job Overview

As a System Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and maintaining the core technology infrastructure that supports our educational mission. Reporting to the Coordinator of Technology, you will collaborate with administrators, staff, the district facilities team, DTI, and DDOE to ensure the reliability, security, and performance of our systems and services. This role requires a strong foundation in system administration, network management, and cloud computing technologies.

Responsibilities And Duties

  • Network Design and Implementation:
    • Design and implement network infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, and security solutions.
    • Evaluate and recommend new network technologies to optimize performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Develop and maintain network documentation, diagrams, and configurations.
  • Network Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
    • Proactively monitor network performance to identify and resolve potential problems.
    • Regular maintenance, security patches, and software updates are performed to ensure network health.
    • Implement security best practices for Google Workspace, Apple MDM and Microsoft 365
    • Monitor and troubleshoot Microsoft 365, Apple MDM and Google Workspace issues.
  • Network Security:
    • Implement and maintain network security measures, including intrusion detection systems.
    • Assist in developing and enforcing security policies to protect sensitive data and network assets.
    • Conduct vulnerability assessments to identify security risks.
  • User Support and Training:
    • Provide technical support to students, teachers, and staff with network-related issues.
    • Conduct training sessions on network usage, security practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Project Management:
    • Participate in technology projects, including network upgrades, expansions, and migrations.
    • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively.
  • Website Design and Management
    • Update events and staff directories regularly
    • Post alerts to the website for inclement weather
    • Work with staff and administration for content updates
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Education: Minimum of Associate degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
    • Network+ certification or higher (preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in network engineering, with experience in a K-12 or similar educational environment preferred.
Knowledge And Skills

  • Technical Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of server hardware, virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V), and operating systems (Windows Server and Linux).
    • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and other network protocols.
    • Hands-on experience with Google Workspace administration tools and services (Admin console, security settings)
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Administration tools and services (Admin portal and security tools)
    • Experience with network security solutions (intrusion detection/prevention).
    • Proficiency in network troubleshooting tools and methodologies.
  • Additional Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to determine priorities and coordinate workload to meet schedules and deadlines.
    • Ability to lift/move computer equipment up to 50 pounds.
    • Passion for technology and its application in education.
SALARY: In accordance with the State of Delaware and local salary schedules, based on experience and degree. Benefits package included.

  • All persons employed by the Caesar Rodney School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
  • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
