THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Used Equipment Manager to join our growing operations at our Reserve, LA location. This is an in-office role, with moderate in and out of state travel. The Used Equipment Manager is responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining Louisiana Cat’s used business strategy. Responsibilities include growing, managing, and sustaining our used equipment products portfolio and client offerings. This role will oversee all aspects of our used equipment sales, including inventory management, pricing, dealer relationships and customer service. Accountable for understanding the needs of our clients and implementing plans to meet business targets for safety, used units, profit, employee satisfaction, client loyalty, and business development as it relates to used equipment opportunities.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION

  • Develop a vision for the Used Equipment Department to create a unified sales team that provides world-class experience to internal and external customers, including pricing, quoting and make-ready processes.
  • Along with the Vice President of Sales, President of Rental, and General Manager of Sales, develop and execute Sales Strategies that align with corporate objectives.
  • Manage and maintain a comprehensive inventory of used equipment. Determine pricing for used equipment based on market conditions and demand. Evaluate all potential trade-in machines companywide to include purchases outside Louisiana Cat’s territory for inventory. Sets and maintains buyback parameters for Louisiana Cat’s governmental sales and any other buyback opportunity.
  • Manage annual budget in conjunction with the Vice President of Sales and President of Rental. Manage expenses within used cost center. Provide updates to the Vice President of Sales on variance of projected budget while identifying areas of opportunity and plan to capitalize on them.
  • Provide Vice President of Sales and President of Rental with used performance analytics and suggestions for market adjustments. Utilize available reports to ensure the field force is meeting or exceeding deal visibility, close ratio goals, and turns. Address areas of weakness, as needed.
  • Ensure that marketing initiatives are being implemented through the General Sales Manager.
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers and vendors. Remain up to date on product, industry trends, and regulations related to used equipment sales.
  • Attend heavy equipment auctions, in and out of the state of Louisiana.

YOUR VALUE

  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of sales skills necessary to sell a premium priced product.
  • Ability to develop and maintain product knowledge of Caterpillar and Louisiana Cat’s products.
  • Proven competence in the four pillars of a sales professional: personal disciplines, relationship skills, strategic selling, and tactical selling. Ability to assess customer needs and evaluate customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to quickly identify problems, approach work from a solutions-based focus, and develop creative solutions to complex issues.
  • Proficient in the use of Salesforce and Microsoft or other comparable systems required.
  • Strong written and verbal communications, planning, organizing, leadership, and interpersonal relationship building.
  • Ability to set and manage priorities.

Most Important Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency; bachelor’s degree in business or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in used equipment sales, heavy equipment, and/or construction industry required; Caterpillar experience preferred
  • Experience managing and developing a sales team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required
