Position Summary:


The VP, Finance plays a critical role in the company encompassing the administrative, financial, and risk management aspects of the business. It provides strategic leadership in financial planning, risk management, decision support and financial reporting. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of success in financial management at a senior level, with the ability to navigate complex financial landscapes and drive the company’s financial strategy to support the growth and profitability objectives.


Essential Responsibilities:


Strategic Planning:

  • Develop financial strategies for the business, along with supporting tactics.
  • Oversee the formulation of the strategic financial plan.
  • Develop a system of financial performance metrics that support the company’s strategic direction.

Financial Leadership:

  • Manage the accounting, treasury, and tax functions of the business.
  • Participate in the functions and decisions of the executive management team.

Financial Analysis and Reporting:

  • Oversee the compilation of financial information into financial statements.
  • Report financial results to management, the board of directors, and the investment community.
  • Monitor financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; and minimizing the impact of variances.

Risk Management:

  • Identify and manage financial risks and opportunities for the company.
  • Take steps to mitigate risks, including the use of control systems, shifting risk to other parties.
  • Report on risk issues to the board of directors.
  • Ensure that the business complies with all the regulatory requirements.

Budgeting:

  • Coordinate the development and monitoring of budgets and oversee financial planning and policies.

Financing:

  • Monitor projected cash balances.
  • Arrange for financing to meet future cash requirements.
  • Guide financial investment strategies that maximize returns and manage risks.

Stakeholder Relations:

  • Manage relationships with investors, financial institutions, and external auditors.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field; MBA or Master's degree preferred.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in financial management and accounting, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in the in vitro diagnostics (IVD) industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing financial strategies, managing financial risks, and financial planning and analysis.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations essential.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Significant experience working with external auditors, internal controls, and compliance-related issues.
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Prior experience raising capital and working with VC is a plus.


This position can be located either in South San Francisco, CA or Springfield, NJ.
