Overview
Reporting directly to University President Dr. Michael V. Drake, MD, the Vice President of National Laboratories (VPNL) oversees the University's Division of National Laboratories (UCNL) at the Office of the President (UCOP). Responsible for managing the University's contractual obligations and strategic oversight for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).

Overview
Reporting directly to University President Dr. Michael V. Drake, MD, the Vice President of National Laboratories (VPNL) oversees the University's Division of National Laboratories (UCNL) at the Office of the President (UCOP). Responsible for managing the University's contractual obligations and strategic oversight for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL).
Responsibilities
- Strategic Partnerships:
- Lead and direct UC's relationships with Department of Energy (DOE)-operated national laboratories.
- Serve as UC's primary liaison to the Department of Energy to ensure effective policy advocacy, contract management, and accountability.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Represent UC's national laboratory mission to the UC Board of Regents and other stakeholders.
- Collaborate with laboratory directors, UC leadership, and advisory bodies to enhance research excellence and operational performance.
- Compliance and Integrity:
- Uphold the laboratories' commitment to scientific integrity, compliance, and DOE standards.
- Extensive knowledge of national laboratories and their roles in research, development, and national security.
- Proven experience in managing complex enterprises and major R&D activities.
- Strong leadership skills in stakeholder engagement and partnership development.
- Innovative thinking and a strategic mindset in expanding laboratory engagements and management contracts.
- Advanced degree required; doctorate or equivalent terminal degree preferred.
- Familiarity with nuclear weapons/national security enterprise and DOE operations.
- Ability to foster professional relationships with senior laboratory and DOE personnel.
- The anticipated salary range is $402,400 to $439,800, with comprehensive benefits and relocation assistance provided.
