Vice President, Program Management & Chief of Staff to President, R&D

Summary

Tango has an exciting opportunity for you to join the team as VP, Program Management & Chief of Staff to the President of Research and Development. You will be an integral leader of the R&D organization, leading the program management function, in both the preclinical and clinical space, and working closely with the President, R&D to drive strategic initiatives, manage key projects, and foster effective communication and collaboration across the R&D organization. You will serve as an advisor, help streamline operations, optimize processes, and enhance organizational effectiveness. You will play an instrumental role in organizing and advancing critical portfolio programs, facilitating timely and impactful decisions, and contributing to the development of overall project and portfolio strategy.

Your Role

Chief of Staff

  • You will provide high-level support to the President, R&D to serve as a partner in setting and driving strategic initiatives. Collaboration with the President R&D will include meeting preparation, assistance with crafting key messages and presentations, including to the Executive Committee and Board of Directors
  • Act as a liaison between the President and other members of the Executive Committee, ensuring seamless communication and alignment of priorities
  • Facilitate the Drug Development Leadership Team, chaired by the President, R&D
  • Advise, support, assist, coordinate, and collaborate on strategic and highly complex projects for, and on behalf of the President, R&D
  • Attend meetings on behalf of the President, R&D, and serve as proxy at events/meetings when the President, R&D is not able to attend
  • Provide ongoing analysis and oversee special studies as needed, including appropriate financial and operational dashboards
  • Write critical, confidential, and time-sensitive correspondence on behalf of the President, R&D including speaking points, letters, presentations, and other documents
  • Provide leadership on behalf of the President, R&D to ensure budgets are developed, reviewed, and approved
  • Support the President, R&D in talent management and development initiatives within the R&D organization. Assist with recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts to attract and retain top talent. Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous learning
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, optimize workflows, and improve operational efficiency within the R&D division. Implement best practices and tools to enhance productivity, resource allocation, and decision-making processes
  • Ensure organizational alignment and oversee program execution at Tango

Program Management

  • Lead and oversee strategic projects and cross-functional initiatives within the R&D organization. Develop project plans, timelines, and milestones, and coordinate with stakeholders to drive progress and achieve objectives. Monitor project status, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies as needed

  • Support the Program Lead in the development of program strategy for molecules from Discovery through registration
  • Plan and track activities in lead optimization, pharmacology, toxicology, and ADME studies, preclinical work for patient selection and indication expansion, drug supply, formulation development, clinical planning, and operations
  • Collaborate with clinical development teams to create and execute an integrated development plan for POC and registration
  • Work with technical operations, clinical operations, safety, translational biology, regulatory, and commercial to ensure functional activities are fully integrated into clinical development plan
  • Achieve organizational alignment of the integrated drug discovery and development plans by working cross-functionally within Tango and CROs
  • Contribute to the preparation of presentations for Tango Board of Director meetings
  • Represent, as needed, the program team with leadership teams, scientific founders, and directors
  • Support active portfolio management (budget, resources, stage-gates) and decision making; monitor progress of portfolio/program strategy, goals, and metrics
  • Ensure uniformity between programs including agendas, meeting minutes, and other program documentation
  • Identify, track, and support resolution efforts for all program-related issues. Relay positive and negative deviations from program plans to the program team and management
  • Develop, implement, and maintain program management best practices and associated tools for Tango
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as required

What You Bring

  • At least 15 years of relevant biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience with 7+ years in program management, and at least 5 years working with leaders across functions
  • Hands-on experience in leading program management activities for oncology programs in early and late stages of clinical development, ideally through registration
  • Strong scientific background in biology, chemistry, or other areas of drug discovery or clinical development. MS or PhD in scientific discipline
  • Oncology experience required
  • Portfolio Management/Strategic Planning/Risk Management, with experience in Risk Analysis, Decision Analysis, and Contingency Planning
  • Strong facilitation, negotiation, and dynamic communication skills across various functions and levels of governance
  • The ability to motivate others, prioritize multiple tasks, and build positive interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with various audiences
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Knowledge of project management tools (Gantts, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to make efficient decisions with incomplete data, and prioritize effectively
