Our client is a fully integrated real estate development and investment management firm. They are looking to add a VP of Construction Accounting to their team.

Salary/Hourly Rate

$175k – $225k plus Bonus

Position Overview

As the VP of Construction Accounting, you will play a pivotal role in the organization’s financial operations. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will lead a team of professionals, driving the accurate and timely compilation of financial data, forecasting, and reporting for construction projects. They will work with construction teams to compile and process all draw packages. The VP of Construction Accounting will be responsible for the preparation and review of various key accounting reports and areas. They will be responsible for building the Construction Accounting team and supervising/managing the staff. They will also work with the Tax department to report project performance and the percentage of completion.

Responsibilities Of The VP Of Construction Accounting

  • Streamlined Draw Package Management: Efficiently compile and review all G703 components of draw packages for distribution to the CFO, maintaining real-time status updates in the financial systems, including Infor, and a dynamic dashboard. Though preparation of the draws, in this role, will not be entirely expected competence and willingness to prepare and support the project accountants is required.
  • Project Contract Management: Enhance project contract review processes, interpret project loan agreement expectations, summarize project statuses, facilitate GL creation, and provide insightful interpretation for improved financial clarity.
  • Leadership and Team Supervision: Thoughtfully recruit and hire a multi-tiered Construction Accounting team. Actively lead and mentor the construction accounting staff and project accountants through effective guidance, supervision, coaching, and performance reviews.
  • Percentage of Completion Reporting: Prepare and regularly review a percentage of the completion schedule, ensuring accuracy and consistency, with at least monthly updates.
  • Financial Forecasting: Maintain weekly forecasts and estimates by analyzing various project performance metrics and report findings to leadership, facilitating informed decision-making.
  • Full Cycle & Journal Entry Oversight: Collaborate with teams to support and review all accounts receivable, accounts payable, and journal entries entered into Infor, including payroll, credit card, debt, fixed assets, and others.
  • Tax Credit and Deduction Management: Actively support tax staff in all construction analyses and facilitation for project changes or improvements needed in ensuring compliance and maximizing tax benefits for the organization.
  • Reporting Expertise: Prepare monthly and quarterly reports specific to Construction, creating a streamlined reporting mechanism for leadership, enabling rapid decision-making in a dynamic environment.
  • Responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll process and all reporting for Construction.
  • Fully implement and deploy the comprehensive Infor ERP system through collaboration with implementation partners.

Qualifications For The VP Of Construction Accounting

  • Strong ERP experience, Infor experience is required.
  • At least 5 years of construction accounting is required, multi-family preferred.
  • Construction draw process/composition experience required.
  • Must have progressive management experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in written correspondence.
  • Advanced Excel skills with a strong background in financial modeling and valuation analysis.
  • Attention to detail with strong organizational skills.
  • Eagerness and ability to learn in a fast-paced environment.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • CPA is highly preferred.
