Position Overview

The Vice President of Finance bears operational and leadership responsibility for the efficient and effective operations of the Finance Department and the Finance Management Team. The Vice President of Finance assumes responsibility for ensuring that the department is operating within the guidelines of Mount Airy Casino Resort’s policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives.

Essential Job Functions

  • Creates, develops and implements an effective strategy of departmental organization, setting management objectives and objectives for future growth and expansion.
  • Ability to issue complimentaries in accordance with the approved comp matrix.
  • Develops departmental business plans to include performance and profit objectives for short and long-term goals.
  • Responsible for overseeing all finance functions including the preparation and control of records and data, the control of stored data, the control of unused forms, the accounting for and comparison of operational data and forms, and the control and management of all employees within the Financial and Operational Accounting departments.
  • Establishes, monitors and reviews all departmental budgets on a regular basis. Ensure that the Finance department is meeting or exceeding established financial and performance goals.

  • Develops departmental business plans to include performance and profit objectives for short and long-term goals.
  • Reviews activity reports and financial statements to determine progress and status in attaining objectives and revises objectives and plans in accordance with current conditions.
  • Ensures effective recruitment, hiring, training, recognition, coaching, terminations and other personnel related matters are being handled appropriately throughout the department.
  • Responsible for the development of departmental procedures and compliance with internal controls to ensure proper financial operations.
  • Responsible for overseeing all regulatory compliance functions including Internal Controls submissions, AML and Vendor Compliance. Oversees and directs treasury, budgeting, revenue, audit, accounting, and purchasing functions.
  • Appraises the organization's financial position and issues financial and operating reports.
  • Directs and coordinates the establishment of budget programs.
  • Analyzes, consolidates, and directs all cost accounting procedures together with other statistical and routine reports.
  • Directs and analyzes studies of general economic business, regulatory compliance, finance compliance, and financial conditions impact on the organization's policies and operations.
  • Communicates regularly with subordinate managers regarding operational, business, policy and staffing issues.
  • Evaluates management performance and provide feedback in order to further develop management team.
  • Implements and monitors controls designed to assure full compliance with state, federal, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to all patrons and communicates in a pleasant, friendly, and professional manner at all times. Maintains a professional work environment with supervisors and staff.
  • Leads key corporate strategic initiatives, including acquisitions, alliances, joint ventures and investments.
  • Responsible for driving the strategic planning process throughout the company, partnering with the executive team on strategy development and deployment.
  • Supervises the strategic planning/financial analysis team.
  • Analyzes and develops strategies to win new business opportunities.
  • Investigates value propositions associated with product or corporate acquisitions
  • Works with leaders in project management and operations to ensure strategic business plans are successfully executed in the workplace
  • Prepares and presents future project proposals to the executive team, highlighting how new business opportunities are expected to promote sustainable business growth.
  • Meets the attendance guidelines of the job and adheres to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
  • Attends all necessary training meetings.
  • Assists in other projects, as directed.
  • Duties, responsibilities, requirements and expectations pertaining to this job are subject to change as needed. Hours are determined by 24-hour schedule.
  • Serve the duties of the CFO when the CFO position is not filled or the CFO is unavailable

Education/Experience

  • Must be a minimum of 21years of age or older upon employment.
  • Must have a minimum of a four-year college degree in accounting,
  • A broad knowledge of casino and hotel internal and accounting controls, policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements is required.
  • 5-10 years experience in the gaming or hospitality industry with a minimum of five years in management on an executive level in a leadership role.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills required.
  • Successful candidate must be an experienced, results oriented, and hands-on professional.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complicated documents, such as technical journals, financial and statistical reports and legal documents with an ability to respond to complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to present information to top management, public groups and/or other regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and provide solutions.
  • Must demonstrate leadership, fairness, and sensibility to the customers and employees.
  • Must possess ability to instill a sense of pride and personal responsibility in subordinate employees.

  • Must possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to write routine correspondence and to speak effectively to the public, employees and customers.
  • Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the customers and employees.
  • Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move through all areas of the casino.
  • Maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude to work under pressure in a fast-paced, casino environment and effectively deal with customers, management, employees, and members of the business community in all situations.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English. Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.
  • Work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
