The Duluth Community School Collaborative Youth Development Director will direct afterschool and summer programming at Duluth Public Schools (DPS) Community Schools: Myers-Wilkins Elementary, Lincoln Park Middle School, and Denfeld High School.  This position will support culturally affirming, enriching afterschool and summer learning programs that meet the needs of young people and their families with the objectives: 

  1. Increase access to comprehensive and culturally affirming afterschool and summer learning and enrichment opportunities that meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of historically underserved young people.
  2. Promote engagement in learning and connections to school and community.
  3. Encourage school attendance and improve academic performance.


Duties:

Program Development, Support, and Implementation - 30%

  • Provide strategic vision and maintain collaborative leadership in directing Youth Enrichment programs and activities, including afterschool and summer programs. 
  • Set goals for programs and track progress and overall performance.
  • Work with Program Staff and DPS staff to maintain an accurate database of program activities and outcomes.
  • Lead comprehensive program evaluation such as survey development, focus groups, continuous improvement cycles like  M3 (making meaning with multiple data sets), and other creative forms of data gathering. 
  • Provide regular program reporting to DCSC Executive Director, DCSC Board of Directors, Grant Funders, and Site Leadership Teams at schools (composed of parents, students, school staff, and community partners). 
  • Ensure that programs abide by DCSC and DPS policies and procedures.
  • Ensure alignment of programs with the Full-Service Community School model. 
  • Work closely with school and community staff to facilitate strong school/community connections and ensure alignment of services with the goals and objectives of ISD 709. 
  • Support the integration of services and communication among organizations and individuals involved in DCSC activities.
  • Support program logistics including but not limited to registration, snacks/meals, transportation, staff & partner supervision, volunteer support, timesheets, facilities, supplies, and program evaluation


Staff Supervision - 20%

  • Provide staff training, support, and supervision of DCSC OST program staff.
  • Recruit and hire program staff. 
  • Oversee professional development opportunities for the continuous education and growth of staff.
  • Work with staff to adapt program offerings as needed to respond to evolving needs, availability of resources, and partnership opportunities.
  • Support program staff including direct participation in day-to-day program operation to oversee/support program activities and/or when there is inadequate staff capacity due to transitions, absences, or other reasons.


Financial Sustainability - 20%

  • Develop program budgets. Assist in development of site budgets and adherence to budgeted expenditures.
  • Maintain grant calendar and write out-of-school time grant proposals with support from DCSC Executive Director and OST Coordinators.  
  • Provide program budget updates and grant budget updates to OST Coordinators and Executive Director. 


Community Outreach - 10%

  • Represent DCSC as needed to aid in fundraising, marketing, and communication efforts.
  • Network with other youth development and education providers to build and maintain partnerships, as well as reduce duplication of services.
  • Collect and share program impact stories in partnership with youth and families. 


Other - 10%

  • Attend all DCSC Board meetings and FSCS District Meetings. Report on programs to ensure alignment of DCSC services with mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Lead all OST meetings and work closely with OST Coordinators to ensure that DCSC programs are in alignment with the mission and vision of the organization and the priorities established by the Board of Directors.
  • Other duties as assigned. 



Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in youth development,  education, human services, or related field. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in youth development and/or education field. 
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience with strong problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated success in managing grant funds and program budgets.
  • Commitment to the mission, goals and philosophy of the Duluth Community School Collaborative (DCSC).
  • Comfort with utilizing email, word processing, spreadsheets, data management databases, and virtual meetings as well as phone and texting for regular communication. Experience with Google suite including Gmail and Google Drive is beneficial, but not required.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills (written and oral). 
  • Experience utilizing databases and/or spreadsheets to track program activities and outcomes. 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize meetings, events, and programs.
  • Commitment to working in-person with young people and staff on a daily basis
  •  Ability to travel to multiple locations in Duluth, including possession of a valid driver’s license and insured, reliable vehicle. Mileage reimbursement provided by DCSC. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing development of personal/professional antiracism through involvement in antiracism workshops, organizations, community leadership, and/or personal experience. 



This is a full-time, exempt grant funded position. This position will report to the Executive Director. 


Compensation: $57,000. This position qualifies for health & dental insurance, generous paid leave, and access to a retirement plan. 

Hours: Work hours are generally between 9:00am and 5:30pm M-F, summer hours may vary. Some schedule flexibility is possible, but being present during afterschool and summer programming is important.
