- In a study of surgical teams, Amy Edmondson researched how quickly and effectively they adopted new technology. Two things made the biggest difference. Regular meetings to review what they were doing and psychological safety. An environment where even the most junior person could point out problems and make suggestions without fear of being put down. Here are two simple techniques you can use for building psychological safety and closer relationships in a team. The first, ask everyone to put in a sealed envelope. One thing they're going to do over the following month to be helpful to each of their colleagues. If there are eight team members, everybody gets seven envelopes. They can't open them until the month is up, and they meet together now in pairs. Each sits down together to open their envelopes. What do you think I wrote?
