NEW BLUFFS BLUETOOTH ATTACK EXPOSE DEVICES TO ADVERSARY-IN-THE-MIDDLE ATTACKS A set of Bluetooth vulnerabilities, collectively named BLUFFS, affects Bluetooth Core Specifications 4.2 through 5.4, identified as CVE-2023-24023 with a CVSS score of 6.8. Disclosed responsibly in October 2022, the vulnerabilities exploit architectural flaws in the Bluetooth session establishment process. The attack involves deriving a weak session key and brute-forcing it to impersonate arbitrary victims. Successful execution requires the attacking device to be within wireless range of two vulnerable Bluetooth devices during pairing, allowing the adversary to capture plaintext and ciphertext Bluetooth packets and manipulate them. #BLUFFS #EURECOM #AitM #SIG #Bluetooth https://lnkd.in/ghRHvtYk

Are FIDO and PIV/CIV PACs the Future of Physical Access Control? Traditional physical access control cards (PACs) are vulnerable to cloning and other attacks. They also require users to remember passwords or PINs, which can be inconvenient and error-prone. FIDO and PIV/CIV PACs offer a more secure and convenient alternative. FIDO is a standard for authentication that uses biometrics or other strong factors instead of passwords. PIV/CIV PACs are a type of FIDO device that can be used to authenticate users to physical access control systems. Convergent FIDO and PIV/CIV PACs are still relatively new, but they are gaining momentum. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has even adopted FIDO2 for its Common Access Card (CAC) program. As the security of FIDO and PIV/CIV PACs continues to improve and their adoption becomes more widespread, we can expect to see them become the standard for both digital and physical access control.
