Should you ask a journalist for a link? 🔗 My answer is: Yes In the world of Digital PR, building relationships with journalists is crucial. The worst thing they can say is no. Here’s my formula for making the ask: 1. Say Thank You: Kindness goes a long way. Acknowledge the fact they covered your story with a simple thank you. It’s a small gesture that makes a big difference. 2. Timing is Everything: Ask for the link within the first 24 hours. Journalists are busy and quickly move on to the next story. Catch them while your story is still fresh in their mind. 🧠 3. Make it Easy: Provide them with all the necessary information. If your Digital PR release includes data and you’ve created an on-site asset, share that link. Mention that it could be of interest to readers who want more details about the study. 4. Be Detached: Structure your email in a way that doesn’t come off as desperate. My go-to phrase is: “Hope this is something you can do, if not, no worries at all. Earlier this week, I spent ages (and I mean ages) painstakingly pulling together a media list for a Digital PR campaign. And guess what? I got a link secured on a national paper within the first hour! Was this luck? No. Media lists should take time. They should be painstaking. Because if they are, it means you're doing them right. You should spend time researching journalists, reading old coverage, as well as looking at who is covering the competition. When pulling together a media list, make sure you: 🔍Use media databases to find relevant journalists. 🔗 Use tools such as Ahrefs to see which journalists have covered the competition (and if relevant, add them to your media list). 🔎Find journalists who have covered similar campaigns. A good media list may take time, but if done correctly, it will make the results increase tenfold, so DO NOT RUSH THEM! #linkbuilding #digitalpr

A new way to reach journalists, or yet another way for reporters to ignore PRs?
