Curious how well current AI models address election-related questions? Unsurprisingly, not well: they misrepresent whether it’s okay to wear a MAGA hat to the polls, suggest outdated or nonexistent polling places, and don’t accurately describe how ballots are counted and secured, among other errors. In elections, every detail matters. And there’s a long way to go until these models can get all those details right.

Generative AI may revolutionise our political information environments by making them more effective, relevant, and participatory. But it’s also possible that they will become more manipulative, confusing, and dangerous. The BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT has responded to the Bletchley Park AI conference stating their concern for AI is more aligned to misinformation (impacting elections and more) than an existential risk to humanity. Its great to see the professional body here in the UK taking a position and actively focusing on the need for CEOs to be held to account for their use of AI, which will then result in better engagement with technologists, and for those technologists to be professionally registered and licensed. https://lnkd.in/e3ATMcJR

2024 is an election year. We have an incredible number of countries where real elections and their simulations will take place. Fake news has already become a reliable basis for influencing elections. With the development of AI, this could have unprecedented volumes and levels of impact (the quality and volume of fake news will increase thanks to AI). It's good that OpenAI has already thought about it (article about what the limitations will be). But we have many other AI developments, including from authoritarian states - I doubt that they will somehow limit themselves)) The year 2024 will be very interesting in terms of the impact of new technologies on global socio-political processes and the ability of democracies to adapt to new challenges. https://lnkd.in/de4EAD7U
