“We as designers have a responsibility to create environments that aren’t just one size fits all. We have to offer settings that appeal to a diverse array of people and not just assume that every environment is going to allow everyone to thrive….I’m not sure there’s ever going to be one space that suits everybody, that’s why variety and options are so important." In a roundtable for Mix Interiors, Associate Director Amy Barrs explores what it means to design the next generation of spaces to learn and work and how to create adaptive, inclusive and inspiring educational and workplace environments. Iberoamerica Designs at Pratt Campus Pratt Institute, Brooklyn Design Center / Pratt Studios 4th Floor To discuss design today, it is essential to have a comprehensive perspective. While traditional design capitals like Milan and Paris continue to thrive, associated with furniture and fashion respectively, other cities like New York have become major cultural and design epicenters. Quietly, some emerging regions are transforming into platforms for innovative design, blending rich artisanal traditions with modern design concepts and business resources. This includes professionals trained at universities that have become hubs of education and design research. Let’s talk about Ibero-America, a region comprising 22 countries across two continents, with nearly 6,000 universities and over 700 million inhabitants. It hosts 187 Biosphere Reserves and embraces a global outlook poised for learning and showcasing its capabilities. The association Iberoamérica Diseña, which we founded, aims to highlight design as a unique value of Ibero-America after organizing a biennial for 20 years. We will introduce this association in New York, in collaboration with Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, discussing with designers, educators, students, and design enthusiasts about this potential and its ability to influence global design trends. In a world focused on utility, design can often be reduced to mere function. But at YA Phygital Fabrica, we believe design's true potential lies in its ability to evoke emotion, enhance experiences, and elevate everyday moments. Our approach blends meticulous craftsmanship with an understanding of how design impacts mood, creativity, and connection. Whether through the playful curves of a chair that invites relaxation, colors that shift a room's energy, or unexpected textures that tantalize the senses, we create pieces designed to be felt as much as used. This philosophy of emotion-driven design isn't just about aesthetics. It's about crafting spaces that foster well-being, spark inspiration, and become integral to how we experience life. 🌍Embracing Diversity: Architect's and Designer's Expansion Challenges! 🚀 Ready to expand your Design practice worldwide? 🌟 Let's dive into the cultural complexities! 💼 As a keen observer of the architecture and furniture industries, I've noticed a common challenge faced by both architects and furniture brands: The intricacies of cross-cultural design. While architects strive to create spaces that resonate with diverse cultural contexts when expanding their practices internationally, furniture brands encounter similar hurdles in crafting products that align with varied aesthetic preferences and lifestyle norms across different countries. Each country brings its own unique set of norms, values, and aesthetic sensibilities, requiring architects and designers to navigate a delicate balance between innovation and respect for tradition. Of course, this comes with a struggle to balance cost-effectiveness with cultural adaptation. This challenge requires careful consideration of production methods, material sourcing, and design flexibility to ensure competitiveness without compromising cultural relevance. How do you tackle the cultural complexities of international expansion in your architectural and/or Design practice? Share your experiences and insights below! 🔍 #Architecture #CulturalConundrum #GlobalExpansion #DesignChallenges

Whilst we take stock of the past year, the plans we made at the beginning of the year, the influences that we were inspired by, we are also looking ahead. It is important for us at Parla to make sure we are achieving the goals we set ourselves practically, but none of these would be achieved without the inspiration, the ideas and the visual variety that goes alongside designing, craftsmanship + manufacturing. So we task different members of our young dynamic design team to conduct research. Their eyes are always open all throughout the year, spotting repeating design patterns, popular fabrics, choices of wood especially in hospitality interiors; however the assignment gets a little more playful when it comes to gaining an insight on the following year’s forecasted trends. What is going to continue? What is going to be a surprise? What is going to be most popular? All questions we approach slightly like a clairvoyant, we have our own hunches, the interiors industry experts have their opinions, and then there will be the reality 12 months later when we have lived through the year, visited + exhibited at international trade shows, and worked with leading architectural & design practices… So, we thought we would share with you the result of our research for 2024. #interiordesignreport #designreport #interiorreport #trendreport #commercialinterior
