#DepartmentUpdate: Tonight we had the great pleasure of hosting Jim Swanson, co-chair of our advisory council and recent inductee into the CIO Hall of Fame, in my undergraduate technology management class. A few highlights: 1. Understand the mission before diving into operations. 2. Diverse talents drive Innovation. 3. Bringing business sense to technology is paramount. 4. Johnson & Johnson's technology advancements reflect its commitment to taking care of all patients around the world regardless of their socioeconomic status. 5. Craft a 1-page dream job description and take bold steps to make it a reality. 6. Family and friends are the foundation of our professional life. Hard to stay long without work-life balance. Today was a heartbreaking accomplishment, we enrolled our 260th child into our Unicorn Box program. That’s 260 families that had to hear the words “Your child had cancer”. Our tiny organization has reached families across the country, sending them all a little bit of Liv’s Unicorn magic. The inspiration for our Unicorn Box program started in 2019 while Liv was going through treatment. Every Thursday night would be chemo night. The medicine she took came in a hazardous waste bag, and we had to wear gloves to administer it. Liv would cry, saying the medicine burned her throat and it made her feel sick instantly. Every Thursday morning she would wake up dreading the day. That was until a friend of mine started to drop little packages on our doorstep every Thursday morning. The narrative started to switch from Liv dreading Thursdays to being excited to see what treat was left for her. We hope that our Unicorn Box program does the same for the children who enroll. Not only does each child get their introductory box, they receive themed packages throughout the year, as well as on their Birthday. We hope this serves as a small reminder that no one fights alone. 💛

This is my 3rd year walking and supporting the National MS Society - MS Walk Albany, NY! We are so dedicated to finding a cure and in the process we are helping so many afflicted with MS remain independent and giving them access to resources and, in some cases, medical devices they may not be able to afford!
