Headed to RSA Conference? Here are a few tips from someone who has been there ~22 times, (but who is counting?!) In addition to the big vendors who often host informational talks at their booths, make time to visit the small booths on the expo floor. You will see cool, new technology; meet interesting people; and the vibe is less intense. Go to the sessions that interest you the most and turn on your active listening skills. Your texts and emails can wait. The speakers spend months preparing high quality, compelling content. They deserve our attention and informed Q&A. Help the new folks with directions, tips, and advice they seek. We were all new once. Network. Make it a goal to meet 5 new people and build a plan to stay connected to them. Rest. It is a marathon, not a sprint. There are a lot of competing events and demands on your time. Make sure you take time every day to recharge and rehydrate. Create a buddy system for your safety. Prioritize rest and safety. Have fun. RSA week is one of the coolest weeks of the year. It can be as entertaining and compelling as you make it. The opportunity for engaging conversations, deep topic discussions, forging new friendships, and building industry depth is unsurpassed. Hope to see you there!

Great tips Ann! Hope to bump into you again as we did when we crossed paths literally at the road between the Moscone halls last year 😀Have a great week and agree we should take micro breaks 👍

Focus on attending sessions that are technology-neutral end-user presented experiences or panel sessions composed of end-users. Nothing than paying for a Full Conference and attending a vendor-led session that is a veiled infomercial. Save that for the Expo floor.

Spot on Ann - and I’d add wear comfortable shoes (sneakers😀)

A wonderful list and tips to share. I hope I get to see you this week!

Hi Ann - If I can be cheeky and provide a public service offering of the RSAC #InsiderSchedule to help with planning for the week. There is a lot going on at the RSA fringe, so my goal with putting the schedule together is to make event prioritisation easier for time-poor executives. Great points Ann. Coming from a seasoned leader at Microsoft, it gives even more weight. I have been several times (not 22 ;)). RSA is so large and busy, one can easily become lost. In my experience, it is by far the best networking event. I recall attending one time with my CISO, we didn't even make it to floor - had coffee meetings, small presentations in hotel conference rooms, and met so many people; it was wonderful.

Great points. For new tech, definitely check out the early stage expo. Shameless plug: https://www.rsaconference.com/usa/expo-and-sponsors/early-stage-expo#

What are some examples of your RSA expenses translating to a tangible gain to the cybersecurity of your clients? When Costa Rica was breached your team said, "We don't see any signs of a breach." in the meeting (lol!?).

Fantastic advice. I always make it a point to walk the booths not on the main walkway to see and talk to these exhibitors… you meet some very talented and passionate people !
