The recent rise in Black antisemitism reflects a long-argued claim that antisemitism is the most prevalent in the Black community. In 1967, African American writer, James Baldwin contended that perhaps African Americans are anti-Semitic due to the fact that we’re ‘anti-white.’ Conclusively, Baldwin validated Black antisemitism as a means of combating the racial myth that the African American plight is undeserving or too insignificant to be recognized as a moral part of the world’s history compared to the Jews. Indeed, antisemitism in every sense of its existence is an additional, destructive form of racism. And how it displays itself within the Black community is certainly indicative of Black antisemitism. However, it has become painstakingly clear that since Black antisemitism can exist, we should be expected to accept the same level of judgment and criticism even when acts of antisemitism do not occur. B/c of Convenant values! If someone asked you to name the most urgent crisis facing the Jewish community, “anti-blackness” or “intra-community racism” might not be among your first thoughts. But it should be. That’s because anti-blackness in the Jewish community is pushing black Jews out. Countless black Jews have made the difficult decision to leave Judaism completely, no longer identifying as Jewish. Why did they leave those identities behind? They could no longer deal with the constant racism. Every person that I interviewed for this article spoke of being exhausted of existing in white Jewish spaces. They told me how that exhaustion greatly altered their participation in Jewish community and their own Jewish identities. They spoke of feeling drained, mentally scarred, and depressed when they leave synagogues. People cannot thrive in communities that intrinsically sees them as outsiders. So they leave. I, too, am struggling with anti-black racism in the Jewish community, struggling to stay part of a community that all too often I feel doesn’t want me. Many times, I’ve considered giving up. Conducting these interviews was in a way validating, showing me I wasn’t alone in my experiences or feelings. Validating — and tragic. One of the reasons I love black gospel music so much is that I can think of no holier sound that the voices of black folks rising in unison. And in having these interviews, I got the privilege of listening to a chorus of black voices telling me their stories about being Jewish in spaces that do not want or respect black people. https://lnkd.in/d__mDjXa

Black life matters A young African man was wanting to marry an old white guy. I asked him for what reason? His first reply was too conventional: True love! I asked what is true love. Nice question not so easy to answer. For appreciating your existence, i don't have to marry you. I could reply with Baptise (Les enfants du paradis (children of paradise)) if the institution of marriage would bring enlightment, the whole world would be a paradise. https://lnkd.in/eqF-Bmvv So i asked him again & he knows well, like "le petit pince" (St Éxupery) i will insist in asking him https://lnkd.in/eqq8EEuQ For what need you want to marry me? Finally he said, he feels to be wanted. He feels his life is appreciated. In short: He wants to feel value for his existence ... & once upon a time a human feels fully the value of being for himself. For this reason, nobody has to marry. I don't see him needing an (old) husband but orientation to re-connext woth him-self. He comes from a background were domination destroyed the trust in the inner sources & the rest was destroyed by an extreme religious education which accept only talents fitting into the holly-book-based-qualitied. I have no problem to accept, he wants to marry what gives him a future in learning to live the very moment. To get what he needs, he use the talents he learnt him-self to seduce. Funny what to avoid in getting. What is the challenge in the whole story? To perceive in a way, to realize the form & the formless is one. https://lnkd.in/e__8Jzwq #love

https://lnkd.in/da3FW_Js We honor Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when the enslaved people of East Texas at long last received word of their freedom, two and half years after President Abraham Lincoln’s emancipation proclamation. On this day we remember the Black struggle against chattel slavery and the exploitation and inequity which followed; acknowledge the enduring impact of this today; honor the resistance and remarkable accomplishments of the descendants of enslaved people; and celebrate how African American culture has shaped the U.S. and world culture so profoundly. Embracing Juneteenth as an opportunity for activism and education, Chacruna has curated some resources (link below) which address racial disparities, inequities, and struggles in the psychedelic field. These include our short film “Chacruna Debunks 6 Racist Myths from the Psychedelic Community”, articles from our latest series on Power and Discrimination, and our latest chronicles from brilliant Black thinkers tackling inclusivity, representation, and equitable access to the benefits of psychedelic research and therapies. https://lnkd.in/da3FW_Js #juneteenth #Blacklivesmatter #blm #Blackhistory #juneteenthcelebration #blackexcellence #happyjuneteenth

Did you know that 16.7 percent of African Americans’ ancestors can be traced back to Europe? Let's findout why. Truth, honesty, and care is the foundation on which a solid healthy society could be constructed. Fairness, respect for life and equal opportunity for all brings about personal and collective well-being, happiness, and peace in any society. Failure to practice all of the above is recipe for suffering, instability and collapse of society. Looking back at what Americans have been through there are things which are unsetling about the foundation of the American society which must be remembered, and taken seriously. "In a sweeping project published by the New York Times Magazine in August 2019 exploring the legacy of slavery, Nikole Hannah-Jones wrote, “[The enslaved] and their descendants transformed the lands to which they’d been brought into some of the most successful colonies in the British Empire. ... But it would be historically inaccurate to reduce the contributions of black people to the vast material wealth created by our bondage. Black Americans have also been, and continue to be, foundational to the idea of American freedom. Yet centuries later, the lasting impact of slavery continues to be minimized and myths continue to flourish. For instance, there’s the erasure of the many slave revolts and rebellions that happened throughout the nation, perpetuating the lie that the enslaved were docile or satisfied with their conditions. There’s also the persistent idea that black labor exploitation is over, when mass incarceration still keeps millions of black Americans behind bars and often working for “wages” that amount to less than $1 an hour. Then there’s the idea that our understanding of slavery is accurate based on what we learned in history textbooks, when in reality, misinformation continues to be taught in our public schools about slavery’s legacy." read the rest of the story. #slavery #africanamerican #Blacks #5ThingsPeopleStillGetWrongAboutSlavery #wellbeing https://lnkd.in/gjV-euZ7
