It's more than just a date on the calendar; it's a reminder of the ongoing journey towards equality, empowerment, and inclusivity. 🚀 I like to consider myself an advocate for women's rights, so I've always believed in the power of questioning norms and challenging stereotypes. From my childhood to this day, I've witnessed the struggles of women in my country. But I've also seen the winds of change blowing strong. 🌍 Today, as we celebrate International Women's Day, let's remember that our efforts shouldn't fade once the spotlight dims. Equality, diversity, and inclusion must be ingrained in our values and actions every single day. ✨ Diversity, equity, and inclusion are not just buzzwords; they're the foundation of a thriving society. I am profoundly grateful to AGEIST Sheri Radel Rosenberg for the cover feature, offering a platform to share my journey intertwining beauty and nature. Beyond Bouquets: Celebrating the Power of Women on International Women's Day March 8th isn't just about flowers and fancy brunches - it's International Women's Day, a global celebration of women's social, economic, cultural, and political achievements. But beyond the fanfare, it's a call to action – a day to recognize the ongoing fight for equality and a chance to forge a more inclusive future. This year's theme, InspireInclusion, reminds us that real change happens when everyone is at the table. Here are a few ways you can be a part of the movement: - Amplify HER voice: Share stories of inspiring women you know, be it a community leader, a groundbreaking scientist, or your amazing grandmother. - Challenge YOUR bias: We all have them. Take a moment to reflect on unconscious biases that might hold women back. - Support HER business: Seek out women-owned businesses and celebrate their entrepreneurial spirit. - Mentor HER: Offer guidance and support to young women navigating their careers. - Educate YOURSELF: Research the history of women's rights movements and the ongoing challenges faced by women around the world. International Women's Day is a springboard, NOT a finish line. Today, on International Women's Day, I want to take a moment to celebrate and thank a very special group of trailblazers—the firsts, the onlys, and those who never took "no" for an answer. These incredible women have paved the way in industries and fields where they were often the first of their gender to step foot, where they stood alone surrounded by doubt, and where they persisted against all odds to shatter glass ceilings that once seemed impenetrable. To the firsts: Your courage to lead the way, to occupy spaces where women's presence was unprecedented, has opened doors for countless others to follow. You have set benchmarks, raised bars, and shown us that it's not just about getting to the table—it's about reshaping the table itself. To the onlys: Your strength in standing alone, in spaces where voices like yours were rare or unheard, is nothing short of heroic. You've shown us the power of resilience and the importance of being true to oneself, even when it feels like you're standing against the tide. To those who never took no for an answer: Your determination, your unwavering belief in your dreams and your rights, has been a beacon of hope and inspiration. You remind us that barriers are there to be challenged and that the word "impossible" is just a challenge to prove it wrong. And to our men allies: Your support is crucial. As the curtains draw on this year's International Women's Day celebration, let's take a moment to reflect on the theme that has guided our discussions throughout the month. It's not just about asking how well we've embraced inclusion, but also about examining the depth of our support for one another as women. Isn't it intriguing how the phrase "women supporting women" can sometimes ring hollow in the face of our own biases and judgments? Have we truly bridged the gap and supported one another, or have we inadvertently perpetuated stereotypes and barriers? I'm reminded of a pivotal figure in my own journey, Reverend Sister Oge, who provided me with guidance and support during a time of uncertainty. Her unwavering belief in me helped me navigate societal expectations at a young age and embrace my true self. Yet, even within the confines of a girls-only boarding school, I witnessed firsthand the tendency for women to critique rather than uplift one another. Sadly, within circles of women, biases and judgments can linger, overshadowing our collective strength. The tendency to assess others based on superficial standards can stifle voices and perpetuate divisiveness. But my personal journey has taught me otherwise. Sister Oge's impact remains a beacon of inspiration, illuminating the path towards genuine support and empowerment. Surrounded by resilient women—from family to friends to colleagues—I've witnessed the transformative power of collaboration and support. Intentional female collaboration should not just be a notion; it should be a dynamic force that fuels our collective success. We possess an innate ability to elevate one another, setting a standard of excellence that transcends boundaries. Talking about inclusion is not enough; we must embody it in our actions every day. Every kind word, empowering gesture, or act of solidarity contributes to the fabric of inclusion, bridging gaps and amplifying voices. As Serena Williams aptly said, "We're the strongest when we cheer each other on." So let's continue to uplift, empower, and celebrate one another, not just on International Women's Day, but every day. Together, we can achieve remarkable feats and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future.

At the end of last week, information channels across the world were bursting with content about International Women’s Day. The theme this year was ‘Real equality doesn’t end with representation, it ends with ‘inclusion’ and it struck me just how true this was when I considered how many people had embraced and acknowledged this one day in our year.    From the younger generations to grandparents, educational institutions to global companies and celebrities to politicians, millions of people across the world joined the #IWD conversation, recognizing the achievements of women and reflecting the role they play in society from a magnitude of perspectives. It really was inclusivity in action.     One of the things I value most about working in EMEA is the natural diversity we see when bringing people from different countries together. From our cultural experiences, language differences and local histories, we have a continuous opportunity to learn from each other and foster inclusivity. Without a doubt this diversity leads to better results for our patients and is fundamental to our ability to be a better partner when it comes to building more resilient and equitable healthcare systems in our region.     At J&J, we’ve dedicated the month of March to celebrating the women in our organization who are leading the way, and without whom we wouldn’t be who we are today. My team in EMEA is made up of some truly inspiring women who are challenging the norms and shaping the future of healthcare: Geraldine Schenk, Roxana Botea, Julie Enevold Brooker, Nina Ekholm-Wenberg (She/Her/Hers), Maria Fernanda Prado, Tuba Albayrak, Júlia Dvorszki, Katarzyna Lukowska, Ana Maria Vargas, Liat Gottlieb, Anne Sveaass, Laetitia Decroix Guilloux, Katerina Pogodina, Roz Bekker, Delphine Aguilera Caron, Dominique Inghelbrecht, Lada Hruba, Charlotte Garrigues, Anouk De Vroey, Saskia De Haes, Filipa Mota e Costa and Liz Daly. These women consistently bring innovative ideas to the table, they make tough decisions, and they guide their teams in often challenging circumstances to deliver for patients. The world is becoming a more complex place to operate in, and we’re going to need more phenomenal leaders like these women in our team. Only by fostering inclusivity and embracing diversity will we achieve this.   When it comes to impactful women, one of my favourite anecdotes is a conversation between Clementine Churchill and her husband Winston illustrated in the image below. Food for thought for us all.  

It's International Women's Day later this week and as a female founded business, you can probably guess that we LOVE anything that's involved with empowering and elevating women. 💖 The theme for 2024 is 'Inspire Inclusion' but here at Hera we're on a mission to make sure that we normalise recognising, including and elevating women in the workplace EVERY DAY, and not just for one day a year! Everyone, everywhere can inspire inclusion for women and here's just a few ways in which that can be done in the workplace: 🎙️Amplifying women's voices - make sure we're given the opportunity to participate in meetings, don't assign us to be the 'note takers' and actively amplify our contributions 🎉Recognise and appreciate achievements - celebrate the achievements of the women around you and show genuine interest in what they're contributions are 🟰Equal opportunities - make sure there's always an equal opportunity for women to professionally develop into leadership roles And, our particular favourite.... 🙋♀️🙋♀️Support female owned businesses - encourage the support of women owned businesses through procurement practises and partnerships So, for those of you who have celebrations planned for International Women's Day on Thursday, throw yourselves into it and enjoy them!
