Supporting our communities has been an important part of our culture ever since our doors first opened over 135 years ago. We encourage our associates to find meaningful ways to give back to causes important to them. With April being Earth Month, over 30 associates from our corporate office in Charlotte, NC, chose to participate in the “Clean the Queen” event in the “Queen City”. The cause focuses on contributing to the reduction of our carbon footprint and the preservation of our planet by helping to clean up Charlotte. Thank you to our associates who participated by picking up litter and recyclables along a stretch of roadway that afternoon. The group demonstrated how the power of teamwork and collective action can help create a cleaner and greener future for generations to come. #belk #belkgives #community

📆This coming Saturday, October 21, from 9:00am- to 12:00pm, the City of North Vancouver and City Park Stewards will participate in Rivers Day at Greenwood Park. 🪴Did you know that removing invasive plants can help protect our natural environment from the effects of climate change? As opposed to originating plants, invasive (non-native) plants weaken ecosystems. ♻️One of CNV's five priorities is continually developing into A Liveable City, and a large part of the plan is continually implementing climate action for future generations who grow up in CNV. The City is committed to improving long-term sustainability within the community by integrating education, cooperation, and action into all aspects of its work. The City provides volunteering opportunities, resources and incentives for residents and businesses. Let's prioritize cleanliness in our neighborhoods! 🏡 Our neighborhood is more than just a place to live; it's our home and the space where our families grow. Keeping it clean and free of litter is crucial for several reasons: 1. Public Health: Litter can spread diseases and pests, affecting everyone, especially children and the elderly. 2. Aesthetic Appeal and Property Value: A clean neighborhood is visually appealing and increases property values. 3. Environmental Impact: Litter pollutes the environment and threatens wildlife. 4. Sense of Community: Keeping the neighborhood clean fosters collaboration and strengthens bonds among neighbors. How can we contribute? • Reduce, reuse, and recycle. • Participate in community clean-up events. • Educate and motivate our neighbors. By working together, we can make our neighborhood a clean and prosperous place for all. Let's unite to build a more sustainable and healthy future! #CleanNeighborhood #Community #Sustainability

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging Consulting (DEIB), Climate Action, Supporter of Portland's Small and Local Business Community. Continuing Education at Portland State University
Late start today...but! Happy #NonprofitMondays! Today I'm happy to highlight a nonprofit I learned about two weeks ago, Trash for Peace! I connected with Executive Director Laura Tokarski to learn more about their mission: Est: Portland, Oregon in 2012 Vision: A world without waste Theology: We believe it is possible to live in communities that are resilient and sustainable not just because they are good at reducing, reusing, and recycling, but because everyone in the community has a voice at the table. Environmental Justice is the cornerstone of the work we do — we strive to build innovative waste reduction and recycling systems that are created by and for communities, and in so doing, are guaranteed to work better and last longer. We are collaborative and determined. Serving: Over 450 unique youth and 80 families throughout Multnomah and Clackamas County. Focus: Providing hands-on learning, low-barrier job opportunities, and education about sustainability in environments that are peer-led, welcoming, safe, and collaborative. Collected: Over 50 tons of trash just this year through our peer-led litter collection programs and provided Created Jobs: Over 500 unique jobs to members of the community facing job and housing insecurity. COLLECTIVESUN OUT & ABOUT! Last week, our CollectiveSun team took a step out of the office and into our sunny neighborhood for a special event: a Community Clean-Up Walk! This initiative was more than just a walk; it was a team lead demonstration of our commitment to our core values of Community and Simplicity. Equipped with garbage grabbers, recycled bags, sunscreen and intention, we set out to make a positive impact. What surprised us the most was the sheer amount of litter that had gone unnoticed in our daily routines. In just one block, we managed to fill an entire bag with trash. This eye-opening experience highlighted how small efforts can lead to significant changes in our surroundings. By coming together to clean up our local area, we not only enhanced the beauty of our neighborhood, and we also reinforced the importance of taking collective responsibility for our environment. We encourage everyone, whether local or remote, to find ways to contribute to your communities. Organize a clean-up in your area, share your efforts with us! Thank you to everyone who participated in the clean-up walk and to those supporting from afar. Let’s keep the momentum going and continue to make positive impact, one small step at a time! #CollectiveSunOutAndAbout #CommunityCleanUp #TeamEffort #MakeADifference #SustainabilityInAction #CommunityImpact #TeamValues #SmallEffortsBigImpact #EnvironmentalResponsibility #CollectiveResponsibility #LocalImpact #NeighborhoodCleanup #ActLocally #SimplicityInAction

As a business leader and neighbor, our decisions are shaped by guiding principles that we call the JKLH Creed. We believe in: ✳ Demonstrating the same care and respect to all communities that we touch as we do across our parent company JK Moving Services and sister company CapRelo. ✳The need for balance between preserving area lands for future generations and commercial development to support area economic growth. ✳Giving back, so we put approximately 44 acres into conservation easement for every 1 acre we develop commercially. ✳Smart development that benefits the area community in terms of jobs and tax revenue. ✳Demonstrating our commitment to the environment by preserving historically and environmentally important sites through conservation easement. ✳Committing time to work with the communities to listen to their wants and needs. ✳Partnering to clean up the environment for the community. Communities around the world are beginning or focus on ‘park equity,’ the equitable distribution of parks and greens spaces so that every community has fair access to these important resources. To city planners and climate activists, this appears increasingly vital–not just for the health of our society, but for people’s wellbeing. As temperatures rise and air quality declines, and especially in urban environments, the availability or lack of green spaces can have life-or-death consequences. “Latinx communities in Arizona are more likely to experience heat-related illness and death because unjust neighborhood designs left their streets exposed to the brutal desert sun—it’s been 101 degrees in Phoenix since May.” In a recent piece for @NonprofitQuarterly, Grace Cotangco investigates park equity, looks at the enormous importance of parks and green spaces, and analyzes what communities around the U.S. are doing to create park equity. “Green spaces are not a nice-to-have for neighborhoods; they’re essential community infrastructure,” Grace writes. “And if approached correctly, increasing equitable green spaces is a form of racial justice and environmental justice.” Read more at Nonprofit Quarterly: https://lnkd.in/ezKkgBAd (Image from @liveology on unsplash.com.) #equity #dei #equityinclusion #sharedspace #commons #commonspace #equityresources #resourceequity #publicequity #socialequity
