Tandem (Tandem, Partners in Early Learning, a fantastic organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area) works to give kids a great start to learning, focusing on children ages 0-5 (the sooner you can start learning, the better your life’s outcomes). Apparently, MacKenzie Scott endorses Tandem’s approach and execution: Scott’s philanthropic organization just granted $2 million to Tandem, a whopping grant. If you believe in children, if you believe in education, I encourage you to support Tandem with your money, or your time, or your re-posting of Savitha’s announcement below. Or, find an organization near you that focuses on children and figure out how to support them. Even one hour a year is helpful. Seriously. Go try it. (Way to go, Tandem!)

Dedicated teachers are often willing to pay for these much-needed supplies out of their own pockets to make sure the kids in their classrooms have the necessary tools to learn. On average, teachers spend $800-$1200 a year on school supplies for their students. Our Answer Teachers’ Treasures, in partnership with local businesses, charitable foundations, neighborhood organizations and individual contributors, helps fill this need by operating a volunteer-based “Store for Teachers.” Donated educational supplies and other materials are distributed via this unique conduit to teachers for the benefit of their students. We serve teachers from any school (public, private, charter, or parochial) in Marion County and the immediate surrounding school districts with 60% or more of the student population on the free or reduced lunch programs.

For the month of July, our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Albuquerque are hosting our 11th Annual Back-to-School Supply Drive to help children in need begin the school year with all of the tools they need for academic success. With so many uncertainties about how children will return to school and what the classroom will look like, they need your help more than ever. Families with children in K-12 spent a projected $519 per child on back-to-school needs last year. For families in low-income neighborhoods, the costs are simply not realistic. Donating new school supplies to children in disadvantaged communities will make an impact on their ability to begin the school year school-ready. Education is the key to unlocking a brighter future for every child. However, there are children in our local community who face challenges in accessing basic school supplies, hindering their learning and growth. Let's come together and make a difference in their lives by supporting our upcoming donation drive for school supplies in Naic, Cavite. What do we need? We are seeking donations of new or gently used school supplies to provide to children in need. Here is a list of items that would greatly benefit these young learners: 1. Notebooks 2. Pens, pencils, and erasers 3. Crayons, markers, and colored pencils 4. Rulers and scissors 5. Glue sticks and tape 6. Backpacks and school bags How can you contribute? I’ve put together a list of all the ways the Charity I’m looking to start can help. It includes: -Instead of 3rd-6th, it could focus on all stages of childhood, through high school. We would partner with the scholarships available to provide additional funding in fields associated, to allow funding for those charities to go even further, doubling the good in the community. -I’d eventually look to bring industry professionals in to mentor, teach, speak, and advise. -I would look to have daycare-focusing on inner-city children means understanding mom and dad can’t afford childcare for the others. These daycares would focus on STEM to encourage development and interest at a young age. -I would look at partnering with the local school districts for after school care as well as potential in school teachings-like Trade Schools. -I would inquire into allowing a membership to allow additional enrollees. Every paid membership pays a membership for another child/family. -This would help encourage development in the industry in the Midwest, and could even set up partnerships/scholarships for college. -We could run a monthly publication, teaching kids how to write articles and build a brand about their writing, and give them experience. -Partnering with WTTW Games could get them into the industry right away.

The Smithson Public School in Kitchener has had the same playground structure for over 25 years! It is a cornerstone of our community and unfortunately, it is facing imminent closure. This closure will not only deprive the children at Smithson School of a safe and engaging play space but also affect the families in our Rosemount community who rely on the school yard and play structure as one of the few accessible playgrounds. Currently, the playground is being repaired by parents/community members who take it upon themselves to “sneak in” and do small repairs to keep the structure functioning and safe for our children. However, as stated above the current play structure is approaching a state of disrepair, and its closure is inevitable. Our goal is to raise money to replace the playground structure this year. We have been doing our best this past year and have raised a fraction of the needed cost. As you may know these structures are not cheap. We need your help! Every donation, big or small, will make significant impact for us to reach our goal and help the dream of a new playground come true for our Smithson Students! Support Students 🤝 Donate School Supplies On Aug. 19, nearly 25,000 Springfield Public Schools students will come to school eager to learn. However, not all of them will have the supplies they need due to lack of resources. To help support students and their families, SPS is launching Ready. Set. Supply!, its annual campaign to collect school supply donations so all SPS students can start the school year off right. "A new school year is an exciting time for students but it can also be costly for families, especially those with multiple school-aged children," explained Jessica Blake, coordinator of community relations. "We want to help fill those gaps and make sure every student has the necessary supplies to be success ready." Community members and organizations can help by donating school supplies or making financial contributions.
