For #construction companies, job sites should be one thing: secure. Providing this element isn't easy, though. There are several things that can prevent a job site from being secure—and those factors that hinder workers from going back to their loved ones the same way they left. McCarthy Building Companies knows the importance of securing a job site, which is why they're using a new, innovative tool to help them create a safe place for workers. Hear what it is by watching this clip from our interview with Ralph Powell, Director of Supplier Diversity and Community Outreach at McCarthy Building Companies. #workforce #constructionindustry

Hiring around the holidays can be difficult if you don't plan for it.... Hiring managers are traveling, candidates are traveling, projects get pushed, people get sick, etc. If you start recruiting too late, you might miss out on the ideal candidate. If you work with Michael Page, we will find out when to start recruiting a role depending on the ideal hire date. We will keep you up to date on the candidates' travel plans, when they can interview, and any potential bonuses that come towards the end of the year. Be proactive and reach out to myself or anyone on our Indianapolis construction team today to start talking about hiring. Katie Tipsword | Kelsey Ryan | Finn Bauer

The construction industry has faced a serious talent attraction challenge for several decades. Even though, those of us familiar with the industry know, the work is fulfilling, challenging, and lucrative for those looking to build a career. Not everyone wants to work behind a desk all day, and these jobs rarely involve that. It's great to see #GenZ on social media working to showcase the options available in construction and other blue-collar jobs. I'm also excited at the prospect to see social media help diversify the talent pool as well! Check out the article for more #Construction #BlueCollarJobs #constructionhr

I know it's tough out there, and there is some uneasiness as we go into (or already are in) the "shoulder" or "slow" season. For many, 2023 has been one long, slow season. The picture I share is the average number of hours each professional on my team worked last week - HVAC Service, Maintenance, Install, Sales, and Plumbing. No bragging or cheesy recruiting ploy, but an acknowledgment that a lot of effort goes into balancing work to meet the expectations of the professionals on our team while still creating great outcomes for our customers and the company. This means that everyone is moving in the same direction and at the same speed - recruiting, hiring, onboarding, marketing, call center, budget and growth planning, etc. It's a concerted effort that can be beautiful and chaotic, sometimes all in the same day! There is a lot to be said for consistency - consistent work that puts food on the table while still providing the work-life balance that our professionals deserve helps in satisfying those physiological and safety needs that we all have (remember Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs). I often get asked, "What makes Hoffmann Brothers a great place to work?" This does.

An outstanding group of Construction talent was able to reconvene once again. Everyone filled with excitement for their current position and future opportunities. Lots of fun, laughter, and refreshments. This was a good reminder that when you look at your current workforce, it’s imperative to keep one thing in mind. Recruiting talent isn’t the solution for good business, it’s retaining that talent. Support and treat your teams well, and they will bring you success. 🍻

Owners: "Nobody wants to join the trades......" Young folks: “I don’t have enough experience to get a construction job.” I’ve heard both sides of the story. And I’m siding with the young guns on this post… I came across this post recently (screenshot). It’s a young business owner writing this. They’re already making money, wanting to leave it all to join the trades. He's using his free time to get OSHA-30 certified and trying to find a way to get his foot in the door. The guy is HUNGRY! And it’s what we all look for in our industry. But before you say, "nobody is joining the trades." Remember this post. They're out there. And when they show up knocking on your door… Don’t turn them down because they’re “too green.” Believe it or not… I’ve talked to construction business owners that hired folks from McDonald’s and Starbucks eager to learn. And they go on to become one of their best employees. With that being said… Be the person who hires for hunger and attitude. Don't be the person who wants 78yrs of experience and blames it on "nobody wanting to join the trades". We (the industry) must become a better bridge between the desire to join the trades and the path to making that a reality. Hiring the person that has the attitude of "I'll figure it out" (even if they're a bit green) will become a great asset. Open the door. Become the solution. #trades #construction #hammr
