Today is International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. A day dedicated to combatting racism and racial discrimination. We are proud of our diversity within Livingston Building Services and the benefits a diverse, multicultural and inclusive workforce brings to our organisation. We recognise that racism remains an issue within the Construction industry and we have an obligation to take positive action to address this. Here are some ways we are taking meaningful action to tackle racism in the workplace. 1. Truly understand our workplace equality. Welcome and enable all members of staff to feedback anonymously on racism in the workplace. 2. Be accountable. Take action on behaviours that fall foul of acceptable conduct and build anti-racism strategies. 3. Embedding anti-racism into our values, training and actions. Ensuring our workplace policies and training educates individuals about the culture of racism and how we can promote inclusive behaviour. 4. Keep talking and spreading awareness. COVID has taught us the importance of keeping the conversation going. It is therefore vital to create a safe space where people can share their experiences and support each other without fear of retribution. Providing education and training to our teams will help change conscious or unconscious racially biased stereotypical thinking to ensure colleagues see each other as equals. Why does #intersectionality matters? Intersectionality is a lens used to ensure no one is left out of our fight for justice and equal rights. It isn’t meant to create “oppression hierarchies”; instead, it helps us assess the difference between equity & equality and analyze how different forms of oppression and inequality reinforce one another.

#zerodiscrimination UNAIDS | On March 1, we celebrate Zero Discrimination Day, an occasion dedicated to celebrating the universal right of every individual to lead a dignified and fulfilling life. This day serves as a platform to emphasize the importance of promoting inclusion, compassion, peace, and instigating a transformative movement for change. Through Zero Discrimination Day, a global momentum is cultivated, inspiring solidarity to eradicate all forms of discrimination. The 10th anniversary of Zero Discrimination Day is marked by the theme "To protect everyone's health, protect everyone's rights." This annual event, observed internationally, underscores the critical link between health and human rights, advocating for the well-being and equal treatment of all. Initiated in 2014 by the United Nations General Assembly, Zero Discrimination Day was established to champion equality and underscore the vital role individuals and societies play in upholding the principle of zero discrimination. https://lnkd.in/gWEuwNwj This principle, rooted in the belief that everyone deserves equal and respectful treatment, regardless of characteristics such as race, gender, age, sexual orientation, or any other discriminatory factor, remains at the core of the day's significance. As part of a global campaign, Zero Discrimination Day strives to eliminate discrimination in all its forms, working towards a world that is more just and equitable for everyone. By raising awareness and promoting diversity and inclusivity, this day contributes to fostering a collective commitment to creating a society where every individual is treated with dignity and respect. 👉 Check out our next post to learn how we align our services with Zero Discrimination Day. #ZeroDiscrimination #ProtectHumanRights #ProtectHealth #diversity #Inclusion #sustainability #certification #ZeroDiscriminationDay
