Empowering First Time Real Estate Investors to Confidently Climb the Property Ladder | Expertise in Investment Property / Multiplex | Negotiation Expert | Real Estate Investor | Montreal Residential Real Estate Broker |
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of speaking to Lin S. about mindset in real estate investing and how it can make all the difference in seizing the opportunities in front of us, or not and missing out on hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of profit. In 2008, I was working for a company based in California and watched the US economy melt down before my eyes. It was the first time I had been witness to such a thing and my only reference points were my own limited experience and that of those around me. So while I saw all this opportunity, the people I sought trusted advice from had no experience... and having just barely recovered from traumatic financial events, risk tolerance was zero. This is the perfect illustration of how mindset (and the mindset of others) can impact our ability to seize opportunities and maximize our financial potential in insidious ways. As Lin and I discussed in the FB Live event, mindset is really a consequence of a few things: 1️⃣ Goals - to direct focus and efforts 2️⃣ Accountability - baseline where we are vs where we want to go + get educated 3️⃣ Plan - what do you need to do to achieve your goals / what is the roadmap 4️⃣ Network - whom do you need around you to advise you, encourage you, challenge you and empower you 5️⃣ Always remember "why not ME" because we all bring value and are just as deserving as the anyone else And depending on the degree to which you can check off all these boxes, that will be the limiting factor to you being able to move forward and achieve your true potential. In hindsight, I realize that I was further along in mindset compared to those I sought advise from at the time: 1️⃣ Goals - I knew I wanted to invest in properties 2️⃣ Accountability - I was following Robert Kiyosaki and had started to grow my knowledge on real estate investing and had examples of people who had done this - building on top of what I had lived through witnessing my parents do the same 3️⃣ Plan - I didn't yet have a plan 4️⃣ Network - I didn't have anyone around me providing any positive reinforcement 5️⃣ "Why not ME" whispered to me often but wasn't strong enough to overcome what seemed like sensible and safe advice at the time But mindset is insidious. And if we don't have the wherewithal or just enough confidence to lean on, it can stop us from pursuing opportunities to grow and make our goals a reality. I can tell you that the next time I put all the pieces together during the pandemic, when I could see that the trends were showing that housing affordability was going to become an issue here, when I saw the opportunity, I was confident about it and pushed forward. There were many years between my 2008 experience and our last acquisition and with that, many lessons, more education, a stronger network of like-minded people (including a super supportive husband) and the real difference that all this made in my mindset. And in case you're curious... my parents still told me not to buy 🙄 #sorrynotsorry

Larry Connor’s journey, chronicled in the Forbes article, exemplifies the essence of blending audacious risks with calculated strategies to secure unprecedented rewards in various ventures, including deep-ocean explorations, space missions, and savvy real estate investments. Connor's success is not merely a product of financial acumen; it is his ability to integrate instinct with rigorous data analysis, a philosophy that XpBrand.AI endorses and enhances for today's executives. XpBrand.AI (Xp) can significantly augment this model for modern executives by providing a robust AI-driven insights engine. This engine does more than aggregate data; it interprets vast arrays of information to identify opportunities for calculated risks, akin to Connor's approach but with enhanced speed and precision. By leveraging Xp, executives can gain the confidence to make decisions that are not only bold but are underpinned by comprehensive, real-time analytics that mitigate unnecessary risks. Xp's platform can transform how executives interact with data, providing them with tailored insights that prompt strategic decisions. This approach ensures that risks are not just taken but are thoroughly evaluated, turning potential high-stake ventures into well-grounded, strategic moves. Thus, Xp not only supports but propels business leaders towards achieving exceptional outcomes, mirroring the high returns Connor has consistently realized. This makes Xp an indispensable tool for any executive looking to navigate the complex business landscape with the same daring yet informed confidence that defines Larry Connor's successes.
“You’ve got to be willing to take calculated risk, not stupid risk,” thrill-seeking Larry Connor says. That has been a winning strategy for him and his real estate firm, the Connor Group, which has led to three decades of astronomical returns and a $2 billion personal fortune.
