Businesses know Taylor Swift's impact all too well. And they're reaping its benefits. While the National Retail Federation has predicted a viewership of around 200 million for Super Bowl LVIII, experts say it's highly possible Swift's rumored attendance will make that number even higher. And that makes for plenty of opportunities for brands and businesses to get in front of new and returning customers alike. And better yet, small businesses are getting in on the action: Restaurants, bars, and hotels across the U.S. are hosting Super Bowl pre-games and viewing parties that appeal directly to #Swifties, with a Swift-centric playlist, bracelet-making, bingo, and more. Who else here loves that irresistible smell of fries as they pass by a McDonald's? I bet I’m not alone in this. And now they’ve made it into a campaign with their scented billboards that emit the irresistible aroma of their famous french fries. It’s McGenius. McDonald's knows that scent can trigger powerful cravings and emotions, and they've harnessed that power to draw people in. Collaborating with TBWA\NEBOKO and Raúl&Rigel, they created billboards that don't need logos or slogans; they just smell like delicious fries. As TBWA\Neboko's Darre van Dijk rightly pointed out, “the smell of McDonald's is as iconic as its products or golden arches.” This experiment not only showcases the strength of their brand recognition but also highlights the emotional connection people have with their favorite fast-food memories. In other words, McDonald's isn't just selling food anymore; they're selling experiences and memories. Two of Ad Age’s four brands to watch in 2024 are Mischief @ No Fixed Address partners. Molson Coors Beverage Company and Tubi are teed up to have goliath new years after amazing 2023 momentum. Tubi, for example, came out of the gate strong—planting itself on the map at Super Bowl. It was the introduction of long-term brand platform “Find Your Rabbit Hole”, which has house multiple ideas across verticals including B2C, B2B, and sports. Overall consumption of Tubi increased a whopping 79% this year compared to prior. There’s a lot more mischief up our sleeves for both brands in 2024. Billboards are designed to grab your attention, and these McDonald's’s ones in the Netherlands are doing so in a unique way. The plain yellow and red billboards have no images, logos, or words. What they do have though is the smell that has become synonymous with the brand itself – their beloved french fries. The "Smells Like McDonald's" campaign taps into the power of scent to evoke fond memories associated with the brand. By strategically placing billboards that emit the irresistible aroma in public spaces near their restaurants, McDonald's is aiming to trigger emotional connections with its patrons. This is absolutely genius and so creative! We all know that appealing to the emotions and feelings of customers is really hard to execute well, and this ad does that and so much more. Not only does it use the customer's senses, but the ability for customers to take fries from the wall allows involvement, resulting in positive reinforcement and hence a more memorable ad. The sent of fries coming from the billboard is also positioning passersby into a negative state of hunger, through marketer-induced needs and the strategic location of this billboard allows them to relieve this need. This is just one of the many reasons why McDonald's has such a strong position in customers' minds. All of these techniques result in the perfect execution of this ad. 👏🏻🍟

No, it is not the scent of blooming tulips or freshly brewed coffee - it’s the unmistakable aroma of McDonald’s French Fries. McDonald's has done a unique #innovation - unleashing scent-sational billboards that have no visual elements. Just the smell of the famous, golden fries. Who would have thought that the cult song of Nirvana ' Smells like a Teen Spirit' would take such a twist and become “Smells Like McDonald’s.” While the idea is unique, the execution is quite simple and effective. The billboards have a secret compartment that has hot and fresh fries kept inside and the ventilators work their magic! This really catches passers-by with surprise, and once they have got the famous smell in their nose, it is quite difficult to resist a walk to their favourite QSR restaurant. All of the billboards were placed within 200 meters of a McDonald’s so that any cravings the display inspired could be easily satisfied. Decades after first collaborating, Pepsi and Shaq are back together with a campaign that highlights the soft drink marketer’s mini-sized cans. A look back to past work with the NBA icon ties into Pepsi’s ongoing 125th-anniversary celebration, which began earlier in the fall and spans 125 days of promotions. The media blitz also serves as the official introduction of the brand’s first visual overhaul in 14 years. Nostalgia has been a major focus for Pepsi as it examines over a century in consumer culture and tries to usher in a new look. The 125th-anniversary campaign has recently seen Pepsi revive vintage ads featuring music stars like Ray Charles, Madonna and Tina Turner. “Dipping into nostalgia, which we know consumers love, is helping us build that foundation that [Pepsi] has always been a forward-looking brand, has always been celebrating the next generation of culture creators and has always been launching the next generation of products,” said Jenny Danzi, senior director for Pepsi Trademark, in an interview with Marketing Dive. The new 60-second commercial depicts O’Neal comically struggling with tasks that are often considered one-size-fits-all, like sitting comfortably on an airplane or fitting lengthwise on a bed.
